Russell Shows Up To Camp Overweight... (again)

As per wiretap...
"I'm probably a little heavy. But I'm not 300 pounds like you all said last year...".

I actually laughed out loud. The NFL is non-stop entertainment! Unless of course I'm just getting older and more cynical.... Is it bad that I've started to enjoy watching the train wrecks?
I could see this one from so very far away and yet it's still makes me smile. Of course, it helps that I live about 2000 miles from Oakland. I may have to get a JaMarcus Russell poster to put up next to my Ryan Leaf.

I ventured into a Raiders MB once. The hot topic was, and had been, Russell's weight.

I used to get all sorts of abuse from Raiders fans for being so negative towards their team. Now when they take the time to write, they're like "Dude, it's worse than you know".
Keep in mind that with Jeff Garcia instead of Russell as the fulltime QB, their win projection goes from 5-6 to 7-8, higher if the DL shows up.

Even if he is just "a little overweight," this is a horrible red flag for Russell. You'd think that he'd come into this season with a chip on his shoulder ready to prove all of his critics wrong. I'm not attaching the "bust" label to him, but the Raiders should probably consider looking around if he doesn't take this year seriously.

Question: Will Russell be in the league in 3 years? It seems like he got his money and doesn't care.

GameTime_3 - two things:
1) Yes, I do think that he'll be in the league in 3 years, but only after going on a strict diet of humble pie once he realizes that he has pissed the first couple years away by being out of shape and a bit too full of himself. I don't think that he'll ever sniff another contract as lucrative as the one he has now.
2) That avatar is hilarious! What is that?

Other Raiders fans hated it, but I called out JaMarcus on day one as someone without the desire and just a strong arm... he's like Daunte Culpepper 2, without the initial running ability.
I'm HOPING that Garcia takes him out and we stop drafting this vertical game bull that never works out... no more taking fast wides with 3 names, no more signing past prime vets to ridiculous deals... draft and acquire a quality O-line so McFadden and Bush can run and you can plug in a game managing QB...
So sick of Al Davis and his Madden 09 mentality.

It's not a Madden mentality, it's a speed mentality. If a player has a quick 40 time or if a QB has a strong arm, Al Davis is interested.

If a WR has bad hands and QB has a weight problem, Al Davis is definitely interested.

Gannon offered to help JaMarcus Russell and he was mocked by the Raiders, who said "it's Gannon who needs the help."
"You know, it's amazing," Gannon said, per David White of the San Francisco Chronicle. "You try just to reach out to somebody and say something, that maybe you can help a young guy, and you get criticized for it."
Gannon said he simply viewed Russell as a quarterback who might benefit from talking to someone who's been there before, but that he won't try to interfere if he isn't wanted.
"I just was really looking at a young guy that's really struggled and just thought that I could reach out to help him out," Gannon said. "I was just looking to figure out a way to go out there and share with them some of the things that helped me as a player and prepare and get myself ready not only for the season but for games each week. I've done it with Aaron Rodgers and I've done it with quarterbacks in Tampa and Minnesota. But, hey, trust me, I won't make that call again."

That whole franchise is a joke and it won't change until Davis is dead. As much as I hate to say that, I see no other way around it.

I would agree the radiers need a whole new staff including owner
