The Patriots just keep on fleecing teams especially the Raiders. Makes sense Al Davis won't even be alive in 2011.

I'm assuming this gives the Patriots more flexibility to re-sign Wilfork as he's playing for a new contract this year.

Yes, They were probably gonna lose Richard at the end of the year anyway. Patriots have enough depth on the front line as it is, so it won't hurt too bad. The rest of the defense especially the secondary is suspect though... so I'm not thrilled about the move. But they got decent value for him. I mean an Oakland first is an Oakland first. LOL. Doesn't matter what the year it is.

Was a true Patriot... Sad to see such a great player and person go... to the Raiders nonetheless.

I've read that he might not even report to the Raiders.

He doesn't really have any choice in the matter, he will eventually have to report. I highly doubt he wants to sit out the year and not get paid.

With the Raiders' recent draft history, can you blame them for trading to be what is likely to be a high draft pick?

Bad trade by the raiders, this hurts the pats super bowl chances this year though.

This is why I hate the Raiders. If you're going to lose, then by all means have a blast. Keep on drafting "good" fast players.
But trading a FIRST round pick for an aging DT, thats in his final year of his contract?? Its ridiculous. The rich get richer. The Pats are evil geniouses.

Based on their past draft history, they probably just traded an athletic freak with little football IQ for a star DE. Not the worst move they've ever made.

Well the difference being the Pats won't be drafting a athletic freak that is also a moron.

seymour already has cash.

sit out the year and kill the whole deal.

^^Nope. He sits out this year he loses his FA status for next year, IIRC.

Plus who would pay big bucks for a 30 year old defensive lineman who's been out of football for a year.

so your advocating BIG LOVE for the raider nation? big bucks? who knows. but there is opportunity.

but if you become a raider? that is certain death.

gee, with that sound of appreciation for the big guy, you are sounding more and more like patriot management.

I've been trying to get info on why both sides did this.

The Raiders side is easy--their DL sucks and Seymour is exactly what the doctor ordered. This greatly boosts their playoff chances this year (hold your snickers please!) and they can afford to pay Seymour whatever he commands. I've had a couple of Raiders "insiders" confirm that to me.

It's New England's motivation that puzzles me. It's not like Seymour isn't still awesome, and it's not like Jarvis Green is going to elevate his game to fill the gap. I get that they weren't going to re-sign him and wanted to get something for Seymour, but this really hurts their already-questionable defense. No return on him for two full seasons? That's a huge risk to take when you are much more likely to win this Super Bowl (and the next one) with him than without him. In 2011 when they finally get payback for Seymour, Moss will be at the very end, Brady will be nearing the end, the OL and RB picture will look real different, Adalius Thomas will be gone. It will be a very different team, and I guess using the Raiders' 1st is a great rebuilding chip...but have these Patriots ever been about building for the future? This team brings in aged vets more than any other, re-tooling on the fly. I think this is a marked departure from the Pioli days and shows more concern towards more than the immediate now. That should be a very good thing for Pats fans in the long run, but in the short-term it might have cost them a playoff home game or a Super Bowl. Is that really worth it?

Lakeshow: you wanna see my appreciation for the guy, go to the patriots board. Plenty of people were shocked and upset about the trade. I feel bad that he has to go to oakland, but he also gets paid millions of dollars to do so.

I am not gonna slam the trade, the coaching staff who were at every training camp practices must have seen something that we haven't.

I would suspect something along those lines too. We're figuring out in Detroit why Seattle let Julian Peterson go for just Cory Redding, same sort of deal. I'll believe The Hoodie gets hoodwinked by Al Davis when I see it :nonono:

Has Peterson fallen of that badly? He was basically our only pass rush after Kearney went down last year.

My opinion exactly, put better than I could ever put it. I'm not sure I see motivation for either team unless Oakland thinks it has a playoff shot, and if it does, NE's still out a star DE.

^^ I think its a long-shot..but its a shot..
If it can beat up on KC and Denver (and with the type of D and running game they showed against the chargers it can be done) thats 4 wins..lets say you need 10 wins to get to the playoffs..It seems possible if they can atleast take 3 from 4 from those games..
I also think having veteran / winning presence is important..I mean how many more youngsters do they need?!

Seymour was awesome in the opener, sure looks worth it so far. He could have another huge one this week. Meanwhile, New England's D sure looks thin right about now...
