OT: What's your NFL team (and why)

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Fri Sep 11, 2009 4:13 am

Thought this would be a fitting thread on the eve of the season starting...

As most of us live in Canada, we're put in a unique position for NFL allegiance... there's no automatic hometown pick. Buffalo is a bit close, but yeah.. they're lame. I live in Western Canada anyways

But I'd expect most of us have designated a team all the same and there's likely some variety. I cheer for the Vikings. I chose them because I liked the jersey and logo a ways back. Plus I'm cool with Minnesota sports teams.

Cheering for Brett Favre is going to be :-?

Buffalo because they'll be Toronto's team in a few years (and they already play a game here).

Redskins. Cause it's DC and Santana Moss kills it. I agree though, I also like Minnesota sports teams.

Dallas Cowboys (became my favourite after Mike Vick left the Falcons because they're a classic franchise and I love their team, they get the best personalities and will do anything to win)

Soon to be Philadelphia Eagles.....Mike Vick is my favourite player by far and wherever he is will be my favourite team.

Well, I was a Bills fan as a kid as they were pretty much "Toronto's team" at the time since they were the closest in vicinity and they were on that Superbowl (losing) streak. And there were definitely good memories from then, such as the legendary Frank Reich comeback game against Houston. Was also a big Flutie fan from his time with the Argos, so that contributed to things.

But everything changed after I moved to PA during the early 2000s, as I just became a much bigger Eagles supporter (although I still had a soft spot for the Bills). Reasons for this change were that the Eagles were the local team and my move also coincided with their drafting of #5. So it was really a nice ascending team to follow, even if they were terrible at first (lol doug pederson).

Anyway, during that same time, I was also significantly disheartened by the downfall of the Bills, and the music city miracle was the real kick in the nuts (It's right up there with Vince's miss in the Sixer series in my personal list of most depressing sports moments) as that franchise hasn't been the same since.

Looking back, it was really a case of two teams having gone in radically different directions during the last decade.

I'm a Chargers fan. I am a huge LT fan, and also was a Drew Brees fan when he first started out with the Chargers like 7 years ago.

We always get so close, either having a dominant regular season and then getting bounced quick in the playoffs, or an off year, make the playoffs and lose in the AFC championship game.

We're looking good this year, but people say that every year about San Diego.

Vikings. Growing up in the prairies the nearest local US network affiliates showed Vikings games, so I saw them every week.

Eagles fan since Randall Cunningham and Buddy Ryan 4-6 defense days.

And they killed it in Tecmo Superbowl with:

Randall aka "QB Eagles"
Keith Jackson
crap RBs
Fred Barnett
Calvin Williams

RIP
Reggie White
Jerome Brown

Seth Joyner

killer secondary:
Andre Waters
Wes Hopkins
Eric Allen
Ben Smith

Not bad off the top of my head.
Raptors Season Ticketholder since the 2000 playoffs, through all the lows... build to the championship high... to Tampa and back again.
RIP The Hater - we miss you.

Eagles. I became an NFL fan in 2003 I think. I obviously did not have a team but the one team Id always remember was the team with wings on the helmet. Thats how pretty much became a fan lol. Also mcnabb was a big reason. Every time I saw him play he great.

Bills are my B team. I didnt like them before but since toronto gets all their games Id watch them a lot so Ive gotten to like them quite a bit.

I've only started watching last season, but it's the Buffalo Bills because it's my brother-in-law's favourite team and because they had a few games in Toronto.
