CINCINNATI, Ohio (AFP) - Cincinnati gridiron fans will be able to watch the Bengals on local television this weekend, after receiver Chad Ochocinco(notes) teamed up with a sponsor to buy enough tickets to avoid a blackout.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=a ... type=lgns/This keeps the streak of sold-out games going at 47, and the tickets will be given away at the stadium.
Chad is a crazy guy, but this is really cool

That is really cool. I'm not a huge fan of Chad, but this is a very nice gesture. Pretty sad that Cincy can't sell out when they are off to a good start tho.

Anyone follow Chad on Twitter? Every single week, he tweets out some restaurant, or a movie, or whatever, that he's going to, tells his fans to show up so they can meet him, and pays their bill/admission/etc. He tells people he's got a plain clothed police officer with him so the crazies should stay away, of course.

Pretty cool thing to do. It's like he's a different person this year.

I thought he was another WR in the mold of TO for a while. I'm convinced he's just childish, in a good way.

Cincinnati should plan on retiring his jersey number and building him a statue.

well, the economy is pretty sad to, which does have a trickle down effect, i'm sure there are plenty who may want to go to the game, but actually don't have the discretionary income to "waste" on entertainment right now.

I agree that it does limit some of the people who can go out to a game. I have no idea the economic status that Cincinnati is in, but if it is that bad they should be lowering ticket prices.

After reading about the tickets and this I have a whole new perspective on him, the NFL needs more athletes to reach out in this way.
Does anyone have similar stories like this about other athletes? They are just cool to read. (Sorry to derail the thread)

He's not an athlete but Carlos Mencia tweets where he's eating & for fans to come by & he'd buy then lunch. I don't think anyone ever shows up.
