He went to Central Florida with Brandon Marshall. I heard some people said that he was better than Marshall in college.

He was better. Even Brandon admits that he used to watch Moss, TO, etc...to pattern his game after...then threw MSW's name in the ballot without being asked. Guy just had some really bad luck with injuries and recent deaths (his dad and his best friend died in consecutive days if i recall).

If the Jaguars OL could protect better and has a better QB to give him the ball, Sims-Walker would look even better. From the year he was drafted, Jaguars fans have been waiting on him to get his shot and emerge as a #1 receiver. He looks like he's now on his way (though I'm still hesitant to call him a "star receiver").

If anyone has broken out as a new star receiver this year, it's Sidney Rice, but MSW is pretty damn good too.

who is the next great receiver? the individual to supplant the likes of moss and TO? that kind of touchdown making. intimidation. gigantic threat to break it at any time.

no one really.

but i like andre johnson from the texans.

im biased towards desean jackson from LB poly. roddy white looks good. and vincent jackson from the chargers is awesome. but right now, johnson is THE NEW RECEIVER STAR that this thread is looking for.

Calvin Johnson is going to be the top receiver in the league.

Calvin Johnson is the most physically gifted WR in the league today. He hasn't put it all together yet, and he's gotta shake the increasingly valid notion that he gets hurt too much.

MSW has benefitted big time from having Torry Holt come in and show him the ropes. Even though Holt hasn't been great, his mentorship has been invaluable for that team and the young receivers. Contrast that with Chicago, which has no veteran guidance for their young wideouts...and it really freaking shows. Same sort of thing with Cleveland. They got rid of Braylon (in part) because he was a poor influence on the young wideouts, but now they've basically got Mike Furrey as the only vet WR on the team. They miss having David Patten or Joe Jurevicius to help bring along the young guys.

Back when Sidney Rice was entering the draft nobody questioned his physical skills. He slipped a little because he wasn't a great worker and wasn't a team-first guy. They never had anyone to kick him in the pants until Favre came along, and now Minny has got themselves a legit #1 WR for the next 5 years.

Calvin Johnson should be dominating the NFL right now. I'm a little disappointed that he's not.

Hes on the Lions...

He was still 5th in the league in receiving yards last season and tied with Fitz for 1st in TDs amongst WRs, in only his 2nd season.

Injuries and playing with a rookie QB has derailed his season so far

There's a guy in Arizona who almost won his team a Super Bowl who might disagree.

he is a very good receiver.

but the question is asking for a STAR. a SUPERSTAR like receiver. the next MOSS. TO. KEYSHAWN JOHNSON. LYNN SWANN type receiver.

while the guy in arizona is a very good receiver. not the SUPERSTAR.

This.

I think Calvin's second season has showed me he's going to be that Moss-like deep threat and TD machine. Maybe not quite that level, but getting 12 TDs with Dan Orsafety and Broken Culpepper in that terrible 0-16 squad is VERY impressive. To put it in perspective, Andre Johnson has never had more than 8 touchdowns in 7 years of playing despite being force fed the ball as much as anyone possibly outside of Brandon Marshall.

Andre Johnson is terrific, but he isn't the endzone threat to put himself in that elite tier with someone like Moss.

Calvin is just too physically gifted, and his body control and hands are absolutely elite, I can't see him not being a 12+ touchdown a year guy, and being the best big play guy in the league. I honestly think that is more valuable than someone you can force the ball to 115 times and get 1400 yards and 8 TDs out of. I want the guy that keeps the safeties so deep that my offense has the entire field to operate.

Andre is a beast and one of my favorite WRs, but what kind of linebacker tries to tackle someone like that? That was horrible, but you still gotta give him credit for pushing his way into the end zone.

You mean the guy who holds the single post season record in yards, receptions, and TDs is not a star? The guy who, barring injury, will probably finish with 90 - 100 TDs in his career (He's already got 55 after 6 years) is not a star?

Keyshawn Johnson? Please. Fitz almost has as many TDs in 6 years as Meshawn had in 11.

Oh that's right. Fitz doesn't dance, mouth off to his coaches, have fancy celebrations, or have his own reality show. You're right. He's not a superstar.

Fitz didn't go to USC, he's not worth jack squat.
