Re: Collin Sexton
I don't think that Sexton is a real difference-maker and he'd just take the ball out of the hands of other players I want to see getting touches. I'd pass on giving him a deal that the Cavs wouldn't also make.

Re: Collin Sexton
I agree that Sexton could be a useful weapon in the guard rotation if he would accept a somewhat lesser role. The problem is that even if he would be willing, which I doubt, he'll still cost about $20m and that's more that I think he's worth to us in that role.

Hard pass on 20 million. Most I'd do is like 12. But I view him as purely a bench option for this team.

Re: Collin Sexton
Sexton IS going to get $20 million/year from somebody; he's not going to accept a bench role for $12 million. Forget about him; he's longer an option that makes sense.

Re: Collin Sexton
I don’t particularly like the 6th man role for him in this group anyway. 6th man means you need to fit reasonably well with all of our starters, a true 6th man generally plays over half the game.
I don’t see it.

Re: Collin Sexton
Got a question for ya then(might be a good thread)who would you like to pick up at each position with the capspace? Even though some positions are set, I think its a good thought process.Snakebites wrote:I don’t particularly like the 6th man role for him in this group anyway. 6th man means you need to fit reasonably well with all of our starters, a true 6th man generally plays over half the game.

Re: Collin Sexton
I don't mind Cojo and Hayes as our two main guards off the bench, honestly. And I like Duren as the back up center, with Bagley coming back if we don't swing for the fences with Ayton. I like Bey at the 3 or 4 with Livers backing him up. Seems like we need more wings. 3 and D wings - they're cheap and easy to find, right?

Re: Collin Sexton
If i knew for sure Casey would actually play him off the bench then i would be more interested. Kids a walking bucket off the bench but im sure Casey the coach is gonna see he's more ready then i guy like Ivey and start him.

Re: Collin Sexton
Plus we would have to take Bagley qualifying offer away to land "our Center" in free agency. Don't have to do that now. Opportunity cost plays a big part in this too.Cowology wrote:Centers are harder to find. You almost need to draft one because landing a quality C in either FA or through trade typically costs an arm and a leg. This draft was probably our best shot at landing a quality big. It will be much easier to land a wing.DetroitDon15 wrote:440BB wrote:Sexton and I assume Brunson are off our board and I am thankful. Money better spent elsewhere.
Yes but now we need a 3 or 4. As much as I like Duren, I wish that we got Griffin instead.
If we drafted Griffin we'd just be going "now we need a C" instead. Big picture we made the right move.

Re: Collin Sexton
I agree with this logic but not the target, we would be better served targeting Jordan Poole next off season with our expirings.zeebneeb wrote:Ive been giving this a ton of thought, and Weaver said a bunch of times that the team needs to add talent.whitehops wrote:i don't think us drafting ivey necessarily means we won't target a talented backup guard (like sexton, simons, etc.). joseph may have opted into his player option but that doesn't mean he's guaranteed minutes.
if we sign monk/sexton/simons then it would give hayes a chance to lead the bench offense with the other guard taking on the brunt of the scoring responsibility.
Adding Sexton as your primary gaurd is a huge risk, but adding him as another scorer off the bench would be a huge upgrade, and be a great combo of him and Hayes.
Cade
Ivey
Dynamic duo(hopefully)both have different strengths.
Hayes
Sexton
Dynamic duo, both have different strengths
The Pistons, if Ivey is who everyone thinks he is, already have a killer 3 gaurd rotation, adding Sexton would create insane pressure on opposing teams. You'd be looking at 3 of the 4 gaurds that could drop 40 on any given night, and one that is an absolute dog on defense.
Just a thought. It may be tough to find a legitimate 4 on the market(which is why I wanted Murray if the team shipped Grant)so you make up for it with scoring gaurds.

Warriors aren’t letting Poole go. You can forget about that.

Re: Collin Sexton
I like Sexton a lot and think he would make the Pistons a better team. He brings instant offense and way too many times the Pistons could not score any points.
Plus his small ball potential with Sexton - Ivey - Cade - Bey is incredible when we need to score points.
The team has cap space now, will have cap space next year (another max) and should have cap space again when the cap goes up.
Just depends on Sexton and if he is happy playing 20-25 minutes a game, getting shoot his heart out while he plays and buying into defense. Is he OK with 6th man of the year?

If he signs really cheap, maybe. I’ve never seen a player/possible new team combo that seems more like Ben Gordon to Detroit as this. And strangely it’s also like Isiah Thomas adding Francis, Marbury and Crawford together.
He’s young, he’ll be playing for his self, our two highest drafted players by this regime are guards. I just don’t understand how he fits.

Yeah, big no on Sexton. We need a bench 2/3, not a chucker 1/2, even if he’s a talented one.

Agreed that we need a 2/3 but he needs to space the floor. That’s why the Diallo fit is so poor. I’m not sure who that guy is in FA.

Do you want this guy? If so, at what price?
How much do you think it would take to prevent a matched offer?
Does our apparent interest in him say anything about our approach to the draft? Do you think our interest in him rests on how the draft goes for us?
Hell NO!!!
