My expectation is that he sucks. He had 1 season at 39% from 3, but that was on 35 total makes. He was drafted based on athleticism but has shown basically no ability to get to the rim or finish inside in the NBA. He's been in the league years now and always seems to look lost.

Much better with a second year team option, just a typical Weaver flyer in this development year with no long term cost.

I don't expect to see him on the court much at all unless/until injuries hit. Best case he finds his shot, works hard and becomes a positive value player.

Minimal expectations at best. He has a solid form for his shot and the athletic ability to at least be a key backup. He has a horrid motor, becomes disengaged when his shot isn’t falling. Pretty much a black hole on offense.

He was the poster child, at the time, for the lottery pick you bring along slowly. So naturally the Knicks started him 57 games of 75 in his rookie year. Then peeled his role away every season since. 4 starts in his second season, was barely getting off the bench last season.

Basically Casey is going to have to spend the better part of this season trying to break him of everything the Knicks did to him.

The harder thing for Knox though is that he’s really going up against Livers for a role. A player who has shown to be vocal on the floor, as well as the fact that Livers has seemed to buddy up with Cunningham.
Knox kind of has an uphill battle just to get even a small role.

But if he hits it’s one heck of a find.

I didn't like this signing with it being a 2 year guaranteed deal, because he isn't the type of player to tie up any future cap space for. Being a team option in year two makes this deal completely fine with me. He's young enough that I wouldn't be surprised that part of the deal was an agreement that he'd be willing to spend some time down in the G League with the Cruise this season working on developing his game. Plus, he's reportedly a really good character guy. He denoted a large chunk of his rookie contract to his high school for a new Gym as well I believe so him getting $3 million from the Pistons isn't really the worst thing in the world. I think he's going to have a hard time getting minutes in any type of regular rotation this season but it'll be fun to see what he does if the team gets hit with another case of Covid all at once like last season.

Return to Detroit Pistons
