We can't have two bad players?
I liked this more squared up jump shooting Hayes but excuse me if I need a couple of months of actually making shots before I believe it. Hayes 1.0 was the worst offensive player in the league - by a far margin. Hayes 2.0 looks pretty good at 1 game.
I'm fine with Bey doing weird stuff. It helps the tank and maybe Bey figures it out. By February he will need to decide if he wants to be a 7th man, inefficient chucker or a 5th starter that can knock down shots.
Part of this is on Bey, but his strengths also just don't match up well in that starting lineup. He's a fourth option out there and an exploitable mismatch on defense every time down. Part of his inconsistency is on him, part of just the role he has. It's too bad he doesn't have a nose for rebounding. It would solve a lot of his issues.
Hayes at least no longer looks like the worst player in the NBA. If he has some modicum of offensive game, he'll at least be in the league for a few more years. That said, his body of work still speaks for itself. It would lovely to think all this patience with him actually manifests into a winning NBA player.
