I love Stewart. He’s my second favorite current Piston. But if we are lucky enough to draft VW, we need to trade Beef Stew. I know some here don’t agree, but I think he’ll be good enough to be a long time starter in the league — as a two-way stretch four that’s not afraid to mix it up on defense. He’ll want to start and should start, but that won’t happen if the two higher ceiling guys develop (VW and Duren).

I’m guessing Stewart’s value is actually very high, or at least will be once he settles into his new position. Solid shooter, switchable on defense, tough, unafraid of anyone. That’s why I like him so much, even if he does have significant flaws.

This should be our last year in the DRAFT lottery, and we're already getting fully into the fight for the PLAY-OFFS for next season.

If at this moment I had to choose between keeping Bogdanovic or Burks for next season, I would take the second one (Burks), because it has a team option at half the price (10M against 20M), and it fits perfectly in the second unit.
With the first one (Bojan) could get another late first round and something else, and in the next FA we would have to try to find a level FORWARD to replace him. There will be money for it.

Regardless of what is achieved in the DRAFT, let's assume luck is VW with us, the roster could look something like this:

Cade / Ivey / FA / Wembanyama / Duren
Hayes / Burks / Bey / Stewart / Bagley III

It looks very good.

I don't think you'd see a VW/Duren starting frontcourt from jump street; I think Stew has earned his starting spot, VW fits well with Bagley (just stick Bagley in the paint on offense and leave him there) and helps cover both his and Bey's defensive deficiencies, and VW's a rookie. And in that case, if Stew and Duren are starting then Bojan is fine in that lineup.

So I'd keep Bojan in the SF spot with Stew and Duren and have VW with Bagley, at least as a rookie. And yes, that would be a monster lineup IMO.

Indeed the roster would look better like this:
Cade / Ivey / FA (or Bojan) / Stewart / Wembanyama
Hayes / Burks / Bey / Bagley III / Duren

And if we get VW, the defensive level with him and Stewart would be very good, so you could really keep Bojan despite his non-defense, but imagine if you could get someone better, even including Bojan+Bey+Noel in a SIGN&TRADE or an TRADE.

On the question, I would keep Burks. He's younger, and Bojan in my opinion is going to fetch a good/better return in terms of value.

As for it "should be our last year in the draft lottery", well, that seems really optimistic considering the state of the team right now.

If the Pistons do end up with the #1 pick, Volkswagen is as good as advertised, and is the rare rookie to have an immediate impact, I could see playoffs. Any other pick, and decisions need to be made, and its going to stall the "restoration" again.

Burks is a better defender than Bojan for sure... Burks is probably pretty close to being an average defender in the league. Plus he's younger, and he has more future salary flexibility. Both shoot the 3 ball really well but Burks is likely the vet to keep, especially if Bojan draws a bigger interest in the trade market.

A lot to unpack here.
- Trade both Burks and Bogdonovich.
- If we get Victor, he will start immediately.
- if we keep Bey, Bagley and/or Stewart, they should all be on the 2nd team.
- Just because there are not big free agents out there doesn’t mean we can’t use our cap space in a trade and get established stars.

I forgot to add - our D sux and if we want to make any noise in the playoffs someday, we need to bring in some tough defenders. Of course everyone wants that young 3&D guy, but that’s what we need to target.
