Detroit has also worked with NY a ton and if he wanted to make a move be able to trade future picks he certainly could. Just seems like that's not important at this stage in the rebuild. You have to crawl before you ball and we're still a bottom 5 team in the league for the 4th straight season.

Right but you can completely turn it around in one season when you have your franchise player coming into year 3, a top 5 pick, and a max contract star.

I'm more worried about Weaver overpaying his first class of rookies and going after meh free agents and not grabbing a whale on the trade market. I've always known we should eventually have to make a big move on the trade market within the next two seasons. Its just about the right guy hitting it can happen at anytime but in the next 1-2seasons and when the right guy hits we need to move.

Mr Peanut wrote:From memory the trade was just initially meant to be us taking Ariza's contract and getting the 16th pick (which ended up being Stewart of course), and trading them our protected future first rounder. And then when Wood chose to sign with the Rockets we expanded the trade to include him as a S&T and in turn Houston agreed for us to put slightly heavier protections on the pick.

This.

The revisionist history on this trade started mere days after it happened.

And it’s apparently still alive and well.

Weaver is starting to remind me of Bob Quinn. Quinn was brought over as scouting director from the Pats with years of scouting on his resume a so called draft guru. Weaver is the draft guru from the Thunder.

Interesting how the Thunder keep nailing picks since Weaver left.

Other lottery teams have a ton of extra picks they acquired in trades, while we only have our own, Weaver's fault. You need a ton of these picks to get a star in town, and we really don't have that luxury. Our young assets are not exactly tearing up the league, so the chest is not that full until you see some dividentds. Weaver should/could have traded Bogey, Burks and Bey for some 1sts and get a few additional pieces available for later. But no...get us another project Center that might be a washout in 2 years.

Coming from the Thunder, you’d think Weaver would have that “trade vets for picks at the deadline” mentality as a base fundamental.

He must not have read that in the Thunder training manual.

Weaver's two best moves so far were Cade and getting Duren. Everything else has been kinda iffy. And Cade the #1 pick.

Unless Cade comes back as an all-star and the team gets a top 2 pick you might as well prepare yourself for the rebuild after this rebuild with the next GM.
