Would You Mind if Isiah Thomas Replaced Weaver?

Post#1 » by MortSahlfan » Tue Feb 14, 2023 12:03 am

He explains his history on a lot of videos, but the one thing that a team can depend on is the max-rookie contract, which to my knowledge, no one has turned down. Isiah drafted T-Mac, all-stars, and even an All-Star from the 2nd round. And it would bring a buzz, and who better than Isiah to know how to win a championship? His presence alone might bring more fans, more energy, a real home-court advantage.

I'd prefer Weaver to Isiah.

He's done the job before and has proven to be pretty bad at it. I remember watching the mess/drama from a distance in New York and being glad that wasn't my team.

I know he has a history with the franchise but this just isn't the right move.

The OP obviously has no clue as to Thomas's prior performance at the same position in New York or his hand is causing the CBA to fold.

It's either that or he's being willfully ignorant and is just a troll.

Which of these two bad optics is it?

Yeah, I think OP makes a better case for hiring Zeke as an outside consultant on the draft, but GM? No ty.

lol... I voted wrong, but .. I hope we start winning next year, instead of having these constant "re-do" things, where we get a young guy (again). I hope Wiseman plays well, but I also wish the best for Bey, who I saw sitting on the Hawks bench last night, which made me believe it would go through.

Weaver isn't going to have much longer... I think there is a possibility of Gores hiring Isiah, although I hear Phoenix signed up for something, and then the owner said "not formally yet" and the day after, KD got traded to Phoenix..

I sincerely believe the plan was to try and be more competetive this year. Cade going down derailed that, but there is a clear reason why we extended Bojan and hung onto both him and Burks at the deadline.

We'll still likely be a year or two away, but we should be able to make a similar jump to what ORL did this year and get into that next tier of bad teams starting to snipe at the play-in.

The East is super deep right now so it's not an easy path, but we saw near the end of last season that Cade had the ability to keep us in games virtually by himself.

I'm really not that concerned with the offensive side of the ball. We'll be able to score the ball. It's the defensive side that worries me. But we're going to look *much* different next season.

I’m going to guess this is a brilliant satire thread aimed at the Weaver pitchfork crowd. If so, bravo.

No, obviously we could do a ton worse than Weaver, and Thomas has got to be near the top of that list. Lol

I'll take Weaver over Thomas.

Weaver is good enough to do the Hinkiee with your franchise that any fan could do. You know come in trade and cut everyone and lose on purpose. Add as many draft picks as possible and follow a KoC big board and draft players and hit on a couple but miss on many. This type of job doesnt take skill I honestly believe any real Gmer can do this.

The average length of a NBA GM is only 30 months. Weavers approaching going the way of Hinkiie if things dont improve next season.

Isiah put together a Knicks team that included Jamal Crawford, Steve Francis, and Stephon Marbury. That roster also featured Eddy Curry and Jerome James given really nice contracts for the era.

And thats even all of that mad scientist roster. 05/06 Knicks. You really look into that and more, you’ll understand.

Damn i voted wrong. I'd take anyone but Thomas, and absolutely take Weaver over him. This isn't even a question.

Even though I'm baffled by this Wiseman trade, he's got my support until next year, because moves he's made before that seemed odd, ended up working out. He has got to produce next year though. Some kind of tangible progress.

I don't know about Weaver, but I'll take Isiah over Casey all day long.

I'd mind because I'd expect GM Isiah has pictures of Tom Gores in compromising positions, and I don't want to see that.

I'll just say I thought Weaver was great, but I haven't seen any improvement since he's been here. I actually thought his strong suit was drafting, but sometimes I think it's the team... Miami and San Antonio seemed to never do any wrong.

Thats what I thought I was voting for. Only after looking at the lopsideed results did I realize it was over Weaver and not over Casey.
Oh wells, the poll doesnt have an option to change vote so im like yet another wrong voter.

The hard part is getting a Owner to agree with letting you tank for 3-4 years.

Weaver seems to be perfectly willing to tear apart, build, rebuild and thats important for a basement dweller.
Hes going to try something as opposed to standing pat.

Now the path hasnt always been smooth, but i do believe hes working with improving us in mind.
It just so happens that without having the advantage of being a FA destination, Detroits path back to the top is pretty bumpy.

But i still believe we will get there with Weaver.

My pitchfork is currently reserved for Casey, who if Gores thinks is so special, perhaps he should make room for him upstairs and get him the hell off the sidelines please.

Eta: Reiterating I misread original poll, Isiah has at least one too many yes votes in the result.

Isiah gave his heart and soul to the Pistons. I love Isiah. Just not as a GM.
