Interesting snippets from GMs & front office staff at SL.

DETROIT PISTONS
“It could have been tough for Ausar (Thompson) to fit in, because we brought real NBA guys to Vegas, but he’s already a team leader. Even in a group where other guys are talkative, you can see him stepping up and taking control. Really confident for a young guy.”

“Locking up Stew (Isaiah Stewart) to an extension was big for us. We love our big group. They’re going to get better by battling each other every day.”

“We didn’t just ‘eat’ deals for Joe Harris and Monte Morris, ok? Those guys can actually play. We’re serious about being a better team this year. We added shooting, playmaking and leadership with those two guys. They’re going to help us a lot.”

“Cade (Cunningham) looks good. He’s ready to go. I bet he would have loved to play out here, but we’re looking forward to seeing him with everyone else in a couple of months.”

“Jaden (Ivey), James (Wiseman) and Jalen (Duren) all did exactly what we wanted to see our here: They’ve looked a step or two ahead of the rest of their competition here. That’s what the expectation was, and they all delivered.”

I'm guessing these quotes are from Weaver, but we don't know for certain who in the organization said these things. An interesting article for sure. https://www.spotrac.com/news/summer-league-notebook-part-2-eastern-conference-1956/

Well, sure, saying nice things is par for the course.

Ausar did look very promising, and Duren looks more confident in his shooting and handle. Those two things stood out.

Ivey absolutely did not look great. First game was truly horrid in terms of decision-making, and the second, while he scored well, he still looked shaky as a point guard.

Wiseman looked the same to me. He can finish when he’s set up, and he has three point range, but he still has no physicality to his defense, he doesn’t go hard for boards, and he still looks stuck in mud most of the time.

Sasser couldn’t shoot, which is disappointing.

Its SL. All this hyper analysis is meaningless.

We don’t know what the coaches were telling the players to do. Especially in the case of Ivey. He’s an entrenched starter. We knew he can play. It looked like the coaches had told him to do different things around play making. So that’s what he seemed to be working on, and some of it seemed forced. I’m sure he could have had 30ppg if he was just being aggressive for his own shot.

Who cares about 30 points? He was an out of control ball hog, that was his problem. Not lack of points.

Considering he was our best player to finish the season Ivey deserves all the time with the ball and all the shots he could take the first two games. I don’t see an issue at all with Ivey. I think he’s a good point guard and he’s a good shooting guard. The team balance won’t be determined by Ivey, that’s on Cade. I’m sure they’ll split time running the point guard specially with Morris Harris Burke that are perfect perimeter players next to them along with Ausar. We have a lot of options. Worrying about Ivey with Monty Williams coaching is amateur. Monty will direct these kids right. Ivey is amazing.

The last time you tried to critique someone for being concerned, it was over Kelly Olynyk, who was, in your words, amazing.

Thanks for more of your keen insight.

If he wasn’t so good he wouldn’t have gotten us Bogan would he? I know what value is in the league. According to the trade Olynyk is worth a FRP just like Bogan. Bogan didn’t suddenly get better with us. Weaver did a good job finding value where others didn’t. Olynyk is valuable and I wish we can get him back personally. He’s available next summer.

I couldn’t imagine being angry over a 2nd year player’s SL (meaningless) performance when he has flashed enough as a rookie during an actual regular season.

Emoni Bates made 2nd team. Pretty crazy they didn't give Ausar any recognition after a stellar SL.

Detroit vs Everybody

ESPN/reporters talked a lot about Ausar and not much about the players on the all summer league team. It’s pathetic. I can go ahead and guess it was reporters who did the voting.

Silver is trash at 2 things

1. Controlling his stars
2. Giving the appropriate awards to the right players

Why is Embiid MVP? I personally think it’s racism against Jokic. NBA shouldn’t allow reporters or media at all to be involved in these awards. This is poor management.

Arguably, Emoni Bates is Detroit (if you count Ypsitucky as part of the Detroit area). I'm glad Ausar's not getting any respect... Detroit is the Rodney Dangerfield of pro sports, after all. I want him with a chip on his shoulder, proving all doubters wrong with his game, once our Death Star team is fully armed and operational. I want an engine-like beast of destruction that knows no pity, no fear, no pain, who will absolutely not stop until the other 29 teams are DEAD (sorry Amen) and Adam Silver has Pistons names tattooed on his forehead. Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, hear the lamentations of the women! I want those mofos falling so bad they have to look up to look down! Total absolute victory at ALL COSTS!

Same old same ol'.
