If I'm Coach William's I try to turn him into a point forward / defensive wing only shooting corner 3's (can hit them at 33%). He is also an elite passer and pretty good ball hawk on the other team's primary ball handler.

If you can get 8-10 points from him on NBA average FG efficiency hes worth keeping for 6-7m a season of another 2 years?

You can’t play a slightly undersized forward that Isn’t a good shooter and can’t finish at the rim. His defense would likely be solid but unexceptional, and sure, he’d be a good handling and passing SF, but if you don’t actually have to guard him, what good is that?

I agree he’d be less of a burden on our offense as a 3, but that’s a damn small compliment when we have four other guys better suited to fill that role.

If Weaver is listening: Suck it up, boss! You blew that pick. That’s OK, everyone blows some picks. Don’t double down on it, trade him for an expiring that might help a little, or just keep him as third PG that doesn’t play. Let him go, we’re trying to be competitive this year.

@tmorgan - Killian could be Weaver's first internal 'reclamation' lottery bust project. The first bust he doesn't have to sign or trade for from another team :P

As good as Killian might get on D that jumper has to improve this season otherwise he's done.

At best he's fighting with Sasser for the 5th guard spot - it is what it is at this point.

Guys in that role don't get 6 to 7 mil a year - they're either on rookie scale or should be on the minimum

I’m a Weaver supporter, but yeah, his reclamation projects have 100% sucked ass. I hope that phase is over.

If Weaver didn't pick up his $7.4 million fourth year option last summer, he could have resigned Killian to a 2 year $4 million deal this summer with the 2nd year being a team option. No one would come knocking with anything more than a 1 year minimum deal based on what we saw out of him last year. Weaver's two missteps last summer were overpaying Bagley and picking up Killian's fourth year... at least that's how it looks right now we'd need a significant jump from one of them to reverse that.

We are also overpaying Wiseman who is still on his rookie scale contract at $12m :(

That's 12.5 for Bagley plus 12m for Wiseman = $24.5m wasted on two unproductive backup centres that give us ZERO.

This is what got Van Gundy into trouble -- too much money given away to backups that just eat up cap room and roster spots with zero production.

Better off using that type of money and spending it on someone that can move the needle as a legit starter.

Heck Jock Langdale got four-year deal with the Rockets worth $32 million and did really well against Jokic in the WC Semi's - non-guaranteed Years 2-4

Hayes is mentally soft. Last season was his last real chance to figure it out in Detroit and he folded under the pressure. Maybe somebody else sees the tools and gives him another shot, but he's probably better off going to play in Europe.

Cade/Ivey/Morris vs. Ivey/Hayes/CoJo

It's difficult to overstate how much better our ball handling & PG play will be with a healthy roster. You are now looking at 48+ minutes of productive play at that position. Hayes & CoJo were frequent liabilities, Morris is an actual asset with positive on-court value. This is a big deal.

Bagley/Wiseman at 37.5 million in the current NBA economy vs Jon Leuer 4/$40 million, Langston Galloway 3/$21 million, Andre Drummonds raise, and the decision to add Blake Griffins contract during the economics of that period in the NBA.

I’d rather Bagley/Wiseman.

Now if Bagley and Hayes get extensions or we overbid on someone like Day’ron Sharpe (watch him take off now that I used him as an example), then that comparison works a little better.

Van Gundy was attempting to create a playoff team with randoms, Weaver is taking chances on building a team with younger players.
