I like the Washington and Oregon adds. It certainly helps some of the travel issues. And living near the Bay Area, I’d love Cal and Stanford to get added so I could drive and watch my Wolverines every few years.

Notre Dame would be a good fit. I know they like their independence (and their NBC tv $$$), but I think the BigTen deal, per team, is higher than theirs, so maybe they will change their attitude.

I think it is obvious now that there will be 40-60 teams in 3-4 super conferences and they will dictate everything for the college football playoffs. The Big Ten just secured themselves to be players.

ND will never join a conference period! Just like the Packers will never have an individual owner. Seems like tradition is being overlooked in the name of greed! When ND re-up on it new deal with NBC it will be higher than the B10. The power brokers at NBC love ND...that will never change

Never say never. If their ratings tank causing NBC to not renew, or if for some reason it makes it harder for ND to make the playoffs, then they would change their mind.

Hate ND. Only reason I’d want them in the conference is for them to get the crap kicked out of them!

ND should join a conference. But will they??

Why do I say they should?

Because eventually, the NBC money won’t be there. If college football (or college sports as a whole) switches to a 4 super conference format, the playoffs will become the 4 winners of those conferences.

If ND doesn’t join a conference, they will slowly fade into the background as a team that has to pay all their opponents just to schedule them - while at the same time, lock themselves out of playoff consideration.

1) teams are going to increase value on winning their conference. ND will be left paying teams like Hawaii, The Citadel, Austin Peay, and/or Youngstown State just to complete their schedule. I would anticipate very few traditional matchups like UM, USC, Purdue, or other.

2) How long will NBC continue to throw money at a program that will never be considered to be in the playoffs and best game of the year becomes North Texas?

If you think NBC doesn't have power, you're crazy! Best believe whatever NBC paid out they they'll have some say in what teams play ND hence If you have a boss you'll do what you're told because he's essentially paying you. I suspect some of the networks told the B10 to add USC and UCLA in order for them receive a more payout. CBS probably did the same thing with SEC and Tex/OK. ESPN weight is on the decline and maybe the network will be sold thus the reason a lot of analysts being fired

Basic economics suggest IF Notre Dame doesn’t join a conference and IF they start to fade into the background….

NBC could still stick with them, or switch to another team. Or maybe they aim bigger and try to take on a conference.

A lot of moving parts, obviously.

But my premise remains the same. ND should join a conference.

With 18 teams, the 'G' can be slightly altered to double as an 8. But with 20 teams, they'd have to come up with a whole new logo.

Change the B1G to 2X

Looks like Stanford and Cal might go to the ACC after all after significantly reducing their expectations of the media money. If they are now graveling for pennies, BigTen should swoop back in and pick them up.

Seems like the Big 10 is done for now after adding Oregon and Washington.

I guess that could always change.
