So if Houston, in the report from Shams is looking for players who can contribute now, this might be a way for Weaver to really put the screws to them, and get that first he's wanted for Bojan.
Houston, according to Realgm, owns their pick next year, if it's 1-4. If its lower ot goes to different teams depending on where it falls. The same applies to their 2026 pick. In 2025 they own it of it falls in 1-10. After that, it goes to different teams.
I am unsure if a team can trade a pick with those conditions, so that's the crux of the argument.
It all depends on if Weaver is still looking for picks, or really wants to win this year, and moving forward. All indications are that he wants to start seeing wins, so the Pistons may not even be involved with current discussions.

…. come on now. You couldn’t get Sengun or Eason in that deal, let alone both.

The rumors are that houston is offering up 2nd rounders, not key young rotation pieces.

Just leave this mess alone. It's sick just to hear the details of the assault, let alone ever imagining that this guy is a Piston, and for what? A second round pick?

Maybe
KPJr (waived as soon as the trade is complete) + 2027 Houston lotto protected 1st for Alec Burks + 2029 Milwaukee 2nd
And this is a maybe.
Houston should just waive KPJr and move on, they're not going to get much in a trade for his salary as an expiring filler + 2nds.

They cannot trade it. OKC owns that pick until and unless it definitively falls into the protected range.
The same is true of the Pistons' picks till 2027 where the Knicks are concerned.

I obviously just made up the unprotected first as a proposal. It would more likely be a 2nd. I guess if we knew Wiseman was going to beat out Bagley, it would save us cap room next year.
The complication in terms of Bagley in such a hypothetical is that Houston is looking for a player who can help in the now. As of last season, Bagley doesn't fit the bill; between his limited skillset on offense and his horrible defense, he's still a negative-value player, his empty stats notwithstanding.

Re: Someone had to do it…
houston reportedly wants a player that can contribute so they're willing to attach 2nd rounders with KPJ. any team trading for him will just cut him so they'd likely just do a trade to get a longer-term contract off their books.
we don't really have anyone that fits that bill as all of our vets are expiring except for bagley. we have bird rights on all of our free agents next year so i think it'd be better if we just held on to bagley and use his salary in potential trades vs. opening up like $11M in cap space next season.
EDIT: just looking at the players that make around what KPJ makes for salary-matching and i think houston is really going to have trouble finding a trade partner. all of the players in that range are serviceable, bertans is the only one clearly overpaid (so why would houston want him?), i think duncan robinson is the one most likely to fit the bill.
