I want to believe that with all of the cap rules changing that a lot of teams are going to hit a wall and be faced with making very hard decisions when retaining players.

If that happens and it happens this season then Joe Harris and Bojan are both really good trade chips here; given that we also can afford to take on a heavy longer-term contract in return.

In the absolute worst case Joe Harris basically becomes a "redo for next year" in terms of trying to acquire a valued free agent. There weren't really a lot of great options this past offseason on that front.

Would you be a fan of a 3 team trade where we send out Harris + Bojan and take back Jerami Grant with the contract he just signed?

No. Because I don't believe that Grant is a good long-term solution for us at the 4.

I say that in part due to age, his contract, his usage rate in order to be effective and the warts he showed when he was with us the last time.

I was happy with how things turned out with Grant (the signing through the trade that eventually got us Duren). But I've seen enough. I'd rather try something else the next time.

Yeah, I don’t think Jerami is our solution at the 4. Good player as a third option, rebounding excluded, but he’s not on our timeline and i don’t think he fits quite right. If Duren shows he can dominate single coverage as a scorer, and Ausar learns to shoot, i might change my mind.

Grant would have been alright but he's to expensive now. Next trade needs to be cashing in on a star.

What do you mean? That they'll have to trade a couple of the core guys?
This is a 17 win team. I don't think we need to worry about guys getting paid right now

Also, free agency as we used to know it is dead. It doesn't matter where you're located, if your team wins you can trade for another star like former toilet bowl of the league Milwaukee just did. The Pistons have never been built around free agents anyway and never will. They need to draft and develop and make smart trades to supplement the core.

Not trade right now but they will have to eventually cash in on a trade to become a serious threat.

I doubt we got lucky enough to draft a championship core and even if we did we couldn't afford to keep everyone.

If they are so good that there's a worry about fitting them in that would be a good thing but the Pistons are far FAR away from needing to worry about keeping the group together. Lets see them pass the 20 win mark first.

If he would only cost Harris + Hayes and some seconds you almost have to pull the trigger on a trade like that to bring in another good starter level player.... on a team that is lacking starter level players. Of course its hard to really say where his market is with his new contract.
