Looks like trading away Josh Jackson was a good thing

Post#1 » by Uncle Mxy » Sat Aug 5, 2023 10:35 pm

Not that I had any doubts, but this happened just after we traded him:

Former Detroit Pistons forward Josh Jackson is currently facing a civil lawsuit after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a New York City hotel room following a Super Bowl party in February 2022. As of now, Jackson isn’t facing any criminal charges related to the incident.

https://www.mlive.com/pistons/2023/08/ex-pistons-forward-hires-donald-trumps-attorney-for-sexual-assault-case.html

Bonus points for a Drummond reference:

“Jackson’s accuser, whose identity is concealed in court filings, claims that she initially went to the party because she was romantically interested in NBA player Andre Drummond, who co-hosted the party and is not implicated in the woman’s allegations. Instead, she ended up leaving with Jackson and later agreed to meet up with him at his hotel in the early morning hours, believing that Drummond was with him,” Libit wrote.

This is TMZ tabloid trash. If there’s no crime, it’s usually a money grab and there’s an asymmetrical benefit to accusing people with money.

Often the accuser gets paid and rarely there’s any recourse for false accusations.

Almost 18 months later this is a thing?

Was there a criminal charge? Investigation?

Should probably wait for the legal process to play out before making any judgments here.

The Pistons traded Jackson as part of the Bagley trade February 10, 2022. The Super Bowl was February 13.

My judgement is that the Pistons didn't need this drama (or Josh Jackson for that matter). We lucked out, dodged a bullet.

I really didn't like this guy.

Not just as a player. I didn't like HIM. Just a poor attitude- the wrong kind of guy to have on your team. My least favorite by far of our flyers on busts.

Seems like we dislike him for different reasons.

I thought he made poor decisions on the court and didn’t seem interested in learning. Nothing to do with “hood rat” stuff, whatever that means.

So not enough to pull a warrant or something? Usually they take these things serious enough to charge you first and figure it out later.

I could picture the guy being a ass in regular life for whatever reason. He didn't really have a poor attitude here but he's not a very likable person lol

You and I remember his time here differently I guess.

I remember him making bone headed plays and getting frustrated. I remember technical fouls, poor shot selection, turnovers, etc.

And he never really seemed interested in improving. That was my basis for disliking him.

Something like this would have gotten me there too though, had we known about it during his time here.

Truthfully though this thread is the first time I’ve thought of him in a while.

Dude literally smoked weed with his infant child in the car. I know you have to have the contrarian take, but come on lol

He wouldn't be on the team at this point anyway. I'm not sure what bullet was dodged.

Until pretty recently, the Superbowl happened prior to the NBA trade deadline. Just a few days before, and it would've been "Piston Josh Jackson" maybe getting us some bad press. Doesn't really matter if he's guilty or not, if it's a money grab, etc. -- we would've gotten the black eye. I'm happy not to get a black eye over a player I never cared for.

I remember fans thinking he'd be great (Pistons.com forum) because he's a hometown kid and such a high pick and young.... He was a good defender, but not a good attitude, but I hope he can turn his life around.

By all accounts, he had no behavioral issues with the Pistons. What held him back from being a contributor was that he couldn't shoot. He got a big opportunity with the Pistons in the role they afforded him during a rebuild, and he posted about 28% from the perimeter.

He'd have a long NBA career if he could shoot, but he can't.

An allegation doesn't necessarily mean that someone is guilty.

Guilty until proven innocent on message boards like this unfortunately.
