Definitely a situation where we can recognize his importance to the game while also being aware of his negatives- and there were also plenty of those.

But any positives are ignored. He graduated his students. He didn't cheat, or bend the rules. He helped many people, just never wanted the attention. Many of his players said they prepared him for life. He even taught history, etc.

History? Knight was a pseudo intellectual with little to zero knowledge of history. Before BB fans succumb to hagiography, let's remember who this ill-tempered boorish and insipid person was. He mistreated his players, fans, university administrators, and the general public. He was arrogant with inflated ego propped up by slavish alumni at IU who were only interested in racking up wins. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing commendable about the man.

He was a tad too soft on his players imo, but he gave a consistent effort within the confines and restraints the university trustees saddled him with.
I thought he was more effective when he reined with the iron fist.
