Even in the lotto we won it was the only draft in the past 5 years where the consensus pick one actually wont be the best NBA player in the class.

I'm not sure Paolo over Chet is a lock.

Paulo wasn't a consensus #1 pick. You might even call him a surprise pick. It was really uncertain who the magic would go with at #1 up until the last day.

OK. Missed the nuance in that one. Pretty small sample size of consensus number one picks in the last 5 years. Ant wasn't a consensus number one pick either, so it's only three examples in the last 5 years, one of whom is one of the best prospects we've ever seen (Wemby). Then there's Zion, who aguably *isn't* the best player in his class (though he and Morant seem to be in a trainwreck competition at the moment). Add three more drafts to the list and you have Ayton (not consensus top pick and definitely not the best player in that one), Fultz (also not consensus top pick and definitel not the best player), and Ben Simmons (consensus top pick but definitely not the best player in that draft).

So go past the extremely small sample size and the point falls apart pretty quickly, but it maybe already did with the Zion example.

So essentially the only point being made is that Cade isn't Wemby and that's a bummer. Well, sure. :-P

Bill Davidson passed. The coaching carousel allowed the franchise to believe it was the coaches* that were the problem and not the players . From 2008-09 to 2018-19 we hovered between a win percentage of roughly 35 and 50. While not drafting good enough to offset picking middle of the pack.

Two opportunities to really tear down and rebuild (after Blake’s really good season and the offseason we thought Villanueva and Gordon was a good choice) we didn’t.

Pretty much since the going to work guys faded away we’ve been continually lowering the value of any assets we had.

We started to see something possibly developing and then we went all in on Blake.

*I will say we did have some awful coaches though

I came in to post this, but it wasn't necessary.

Since Mr D died, we've been a mess. First the franchise was being sold, so we had to get rid of all the long contracts. Then Gores bought the team, and while he's not a cheap/bad owner, he is clueless, and people around him have been terrible.

Mr Davidson was a fantastic owner but it is what it is.

The Pistons sucked for the first 10 years of Davidson's ownership too.

We cannot even compete with the Wizards.
There is nothing salvageable, jettison all of it, Cade, Duren, Auser, all of it, they have been taught to lose, they must go as well.
What a disgrace.

Sounds like they continue to sell fans on this BS. Eventually all the talk is meaningless if they can't go out on the court and back it up and win a few games here and there. No one expected them to be .500 ... I was hopeful for 30-32 wins this season if things went well but even with the injuries us looking like we'll be 2-18 or maybe 3-17 if we're lucky... and once again dead last in the league 1/4th of the way thru the season means any and all of this BS fluff crap no longer has any merit until they do something on the court in a game.

Sounds like a scrappy, hard working team that can’t shoot, can’t defend without fouling, and turns the ball over too much.

Honestly, I believe the effort is there. I’m not sure they have the basketball IQ or the talent level needed to win.
