So, you're basically insinuating that Monty is a money grubbing thief who made a professional commitment with a team in which he had no intention of fulfilling so that he could intentionally underperform, be relieved of his duties, and sail off into the sunset with millions of dollars for a life outside of the NBA forever, correct?

I mean he said verbatim he came here because of the money. Did he come here with the intent to underperform and get fired? No, not necessarily. If Morris and Bojan were healthy to start the season & we got more internal development from our young guys, I'm sure Monty/Troy/Gores thought we could fight for a low play in spot.

But I'm sure at this point he's pretty indifferent, has no intention to put his best foot forward, and would actually prefer to be fired. After all he'd still get the money that he accepted the job for in the first place.

Of course the money is a factor. But it wasn't the only factor. Go back and watch Monty's introductory presser and listen to what he, Gores, and Troy were saying. There was excitement, gratitude, and hope for this partnership, all the way around.
This year certainly has been a disappointment, but that's the way it goes in sports. As bad as this season has gone, it's not going to be this way forever.

Before I found RealGM, I was a longtime poster over at the Pistons.com message board. My handle was "The Palace Assassin". This was my avatar. Truth be told, I just recently figured out how to add an avatar to my profile here 8-)
I'm a long time Mtg player and Royal Assassin was one of my favorites, way back when.

I'm fond of the card too. My first really competitive deck was built around Royal Assassin & Icy Manipulator waaaay back around 4th edition.

I used to play quite a bit, but covid and adulting largely killed that. I still play some, but I don't really like modern card design. Amongst our group I'm the old man on the porch yelling at the kids to get off his lawn.

Same! Blue and Black with counterspells! I started playing during 4th edition too! I sold all of my paper cards back in 01' for what today would literally be worth tens of thousands of dollars :banghead: . I can't believe how much the value of those old cards have gone up! Now I play MTGO occasionally. But not nearly as much as I used to.
Cool connection!

I was also on Pistons.com since the 2000s. Funny you guys mention basketball cards. I had thousands, but I think when I moved out in 2002, that they were garage saled. I've never heard of kids collecting cards now. My cousin is in high school and is obsessed with the Pistons/NBA but he's never even seen a basketball card.

When I do watch part of a game (never the entire game, and not if there's a good matchup on elsewhere) I don't feel any excitement or disappointment. It's like I'm watching the Jazz vs the Hawks or something. Just don't care right now, and that's probably better anyway.

Sadly, I've not been able to get there yet.
