Naji Marshall
I talked about him a few months ago, and now that Trajan Langdon is the guy who will call the shots I will go out of the limbo and say it.
Naji Marshall will be our first free agent. His skillset is perfect for us. He can handle the ball, shoot 3's and he is a very good defender. I hope we get a bunch more wings other than him, but he would be a great start.

Yep.
Everyone is quick to point Brandon Ingram to us but he's coming from the front office that is rumored to be shipping him so I'm not sure I believe that one.

Re: Naji Marshall
Naji Marshall makes some sense as a possible under the radar guy but I'm not sure he's really someone to get excited about. If we had 48 SF minutes to give out and I'm not sure how much better Naji is to be given those minutes over Ausar and Font. Then again, with a new guy calling the shots not sure how much he even likes what Ausar and Font bring to the table so its TBD on what will happen.
One thing I hope is, Trajan starts his job with us by going through and watching all 82 games from last season to get a better idea and understanding of what he's already got on the roster and a better understanding as to why we were so terrible.

Re: Naji Marshall
Also, it'll be interesting to see if he has any affinity for Duke players.
Luke Kennard a FA
Tyus Jones a FA
We desperately need shooting so it'll be interesting to see if we're rumored to be meshing with either.
It'll also be interesting to see if we still have a close working relationship with Jefff Schwartz (Cade, Wiseman, Bagley, Olynyk, etc) and continue to go after his clients (Monk).

Could definitely see this and would be a good pickup for us.

I would like to pick him up, but not our first signing. Miles Bridges needs to be our first signing, then naji then resign Fonteccio.

I don’t understand the obsession with Miles Bridges. Middling talent, low character, bad PR.

I am at the point that if cade is the only returning starting 5 member when season starts i will be happy. Bring in enough guys in free agency, trades and draft that the other 4 spots are guys who didnt end the year here last season. Fill the bench with those last yr guys would be ok..

I like Naji. Would be happy if we got him.
Re: Miles Bridges. I would find it shocking if a new POBO came in and dumped a bunch of money on Miles Bridges as his first big move. I also think he’s not a great fit. We don’t need more below average shooters.

Miles Bridges is garbage, he became an inneficient volume scorer that plays no defense.
Naji Marshall plays win ball, like Ausar, he does a lot of things that help you win, Bridges doesn't, like LaVine, like Randle, etc.

Last season was the only year that he’s shot the 3 at a respectable percentage. Is that a concern or do you think that he can maintain the trajectory?
He obviously played with a ton of scorers in NO. If he comes to a team like the Pistons with much fewer volume scorers, does he have the capacity to take more shots or is he topped out at a 9/10ppg scorer?

Honestly everyone would be all over him if it wasn't for the DV case. I don't condone his behavior, but I do believe in working on yourself for the better. If the league hasn't blackballed him, I say give him a chance.Kalamazoo317 wrote:I don’t understand the obsession with Miles Bridges. Middling talent, low character, bad PR.

100% this!
The same people that say signing him would be stupid are the same ones dying to throw a $20-$25m per year contract at Malik Monk without realising Miles is only one year older at 26 and shot the same 3pt % as Monk. bridges is a much better investment IMO and it’s just the stank from his DV charge that makes people negative. On paper, he’s easily the most impactful and gettable player that won’t cost us assets outside of cap space.

I don’t want either of them. I don’t believe in Miles’ on court impact either

Re: Naji Marshall
Not sold on Monk being a difference maker for us given he's made a career of being the 6th Man microwave scorer on teams with legit stars.
He's perfect in that role but here we'd be casting him as the compliment to Cade.
Unless we're signing someone else as that #2 guy.
As for Bridges I can't see Langdon going after him simply due to the PR

How much does Naji Marshall command? Seems like a between league minimum and MLE kind of guy from what I've seen, but haven't really seen him play much...

I'd guess something close to the MLE, if he is super cheap there is no reason for NOP not bring him back, so we'd need to overpay to get him.

He have improved every season and more important, when under pressure during the playoffs he excelled, which shows to me he's a winner mentally strong and a hard worker.
He shot 39,6% from 3 in catch and shoot this season FWIW. That's similar to Burks and Bojan (in a much smaller volume tho)
On the defensive end, opponents shot 42.8% from the field against him, that was his team's 2nd best, behind Trey Murphy, and ahead of Herb Jones.
I think Naji Marshall is ready to step into a bigger role, he can play/defend the 2-3-4. He is strong, athletic and long. We were linked to Tobias and Bridges as possible PF free agents.
Miles Bridges 6'5.25 220 6'9.5"
Tobias Harris 6'6.5" 226 6'11"
Naji Marshall 6'5.75" 220 7'0.75"
Ausar Thompson 6'5.75" 218 7'0"
Marshall is comparable to them in size, so he could very well be our starting 4. We would be fine with a rotation of Ausar/Fontecchio/Marshall at the wings imo.
Or we could go big and play all 3 with Cade and a center. Cade/Ausar/Marshall/Fontecchio/Claxton would be a huge lineup which would be awesome defensively.
The potential is there, it's just a matter of give him the opportunity, and like I said, I believe he will impress and exceed expectations.
Naji Marshall is not a sexy name, but with his size, skillset and intangibles he is THE perfect FA for us. He should be our #1 acquisition imo and he obviously should hire me as his agent

Sounds promising. If anyone should see the value, it should be Trajon from being immersed in that organization.
