You know, just in the hopes of returning us to some version of respectable that doesn't have every draftee, free agent, and trade candidate running away from us screaming, it's not the worst idea

CP3 is going to be the Hornets coach one day and return home to North Carolina. It’s in the stars

My bet is he failed to get a head coaching job for 4 teams this summer and he wanted to save his face. Pistons probably aren’t interested in Borrego and his people told him to pull out as he has one final shot next summer to get a head coaching job.

Or maybe we were actually interested in him and he's just the same as draftees whose agents don't want them to talk to us, players we trade for who ask to get moved elsewhere, and free agents who don't give us the time of day. The pattern is starting to become pretty clear. We're toxic.

If we can’t get Sweeney or Nori then I would be right, we shouldn’t have fired Monty. Monty should’ve been fired in January for this reason alone. If we can’t get a real talented assistant coach then what was the point of firing Monty? I wasn’t a fan of Monty, I just know how BAD we were gonna look firing him this late in the summer, the decision should’ve been made on Weaver and Monty in January, this is now the situation. How are players supposed to come to Detroit not knowing who the coach is and how they’re gonna utilize the free agent? It’s a big mess.

Monty should've been fired after the losing streak got to record numbers. Weaver should've been fired before the Monty hire.

Borrego just wants Gores to double his offer. Worked for Monty to turn him down publicly.

Dust off Casey for a season vs choosing the left overs and being locked in for 3yrs.
Weaver = Hinkie
VW to Portland :pray:

I wouldn’t obsess over the reason he pulled out because it doesn’t matter and I doubt we’ll ever know.

I seriously doubt it’s a negotiating stance but even if it is we shouldn’t play that game.

I like the idea of having a more x's and o's coach. I didn't like the fact that I heard rumors that he seemed have lost the locker room in Charlotte.

The THJ trade may or may not have factored in; the timing of the announcement being the biggest reason to link them.

I don't view THJ as being especially great in terms of contributing to winning basketball. Maybe he spaces the floor a bit? But he's a sieve defensively and a chucker on offense. It's been 3 years since he's had a plus season offensively; so this feels like a tanking move for us. Maybe Borrego didn't want to be a part of that.

1/5th of our cap space is now gone. The possibility of using that cap to acquire 3 bona fide starters with it that would translate to a big jump in wins just became much more remote. I don't think it was realistic to begin with.

That shooting coach needs to perform a miracle...
