Tell me why we got rid of this guy again?

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Grimes followed up that game with an 0 for 7 performance, and is shooting 38%, 25% from 3P. We'll see how many games he can actually play this year. I was thinking this thread would be about Evbuomwan when I saw it, honestly.

That's what THjr shot for the last month of the season. And it's way better than what he did this preseason...

I wanted Tooson on a Klintmam deal, I think every team might need 3-4 contracts like that to sign the other 9 they need, he seemed like a good candidate to me.

I was a Grimes fan and wasn't happy we traded him. That being said, we should probably wait until we have a decent sample size of regular season games before making any conclusions here.

Thought we were finally getting a Luka Garza thread. Someday…

If this was something written by a Piston beat writer you'd more easily recognize that piece as the preseason fluff that it is.

Best of luck to him. He just hasn't been able to stay healthy long enough to make any real progress. On paper, he could be a 3&D guy, but he hasn't really been able to put it together. And realistically, he's not a high end athlete and he doesn't put it on the floor well enough to be more than a complimentary role player. He really needs to be an efficient 3 point shooter to deserve rotation minutes because he's not going to fill up the rest of that stat sheet.

I thought I heard a big part of the reason was he didn't want to be in Detroit?

Grimes has exploded out of the gate in Dallas averaging 2 ppg on 20% from the field and 0% from three.

With those stats it's easy to understand why he turned down a three year extension for approx. $27 million.

What were the Mavs thinking?

yeah... never understood the criticism with that trade. THJ was a starter for the mavs, played the 4th most MPG. grimes fell out of the rotation in new york, did nothing in detroit (small sample size) and is barely in dallas' rotation now.

THJ is at least shooting 48% from 3 on decent volume.

I'm fine with the trade now, but I think the premise of the criticism was that our roster almost completely lacked 3&D players, so tossing away a potential one in Grimes for a vet rental didn't make a ton of sense. Still not sure it did, but the vibe is Grimes didn't want to be here and Cade did want THJ here, so it is what it is.

The season is still relatively early but after 8 games (7 for Dallas):

THJ - 13.0 ppg shooting 49% from three on 6.4 attempts

Grimes - 3.0 ppg shooting 33% from three on 1.7 attempts

We are paying $10M more for THJ but for significantly better production, and got three second rounders out of it. Looking like a W for Langdon.

I agree plus Grimes didn’t want to be here, Hardaway is perfect in his role for us.

Not that I disagree or care for Grimes either way, but where are you guys getting that he didn't want to be here? Was there a report about this?

THJ has integrated on offense a lot better than I was expecting him to and seems like he really wants to be there and has been a good chemistry guy. Overall team chemistry looks a lot better this year.

The court of public opinion hates THJ because he’s not prime Klay Thompson. The court of public opinion is also very unreasonable.

Cade and THJ spent a good chunk of off-season as gym rats together down in Texas.
Thats all I needed to read to realize he was coming here and playing a role on this team.
