I disagree with your analogy. A loose ball is a loose ball whether you're playing soccer or basketball. Do soccer players get red cards when making incidental contact while sliding for a loose ball? No. Nor do basketball players. And nor should they.

The NFL has rules against diving into legs and low blocks specifically because of the types of injuries that can occur. The NBA did clean up "dangerous closeouts" due to jump shooters landing on opponents feet and twisting/rolling ankles so its not out of the question that at some point the NBA will look at putting something in place about diving into another players legs beyond being just a common foul.
