Right now Cade Cunningham is the betting favorite for the MIP award... most improved player. Norman Powell is 2nd and no one else is close beyond that.
Beasley is 2nd in a close race for 6th man of the year with the Celtics Payton Pritchard.
JB is 2nd but still somewhat far behind in a race for coach of the year award.

I could see both Beasley & JB make up ground if some of these trends (like winning!) continue. The hype train will continue to grow.

Also interesting is there's some growing chatter for Cade to make all-defense team.

Best DFG% On Post Ups For The 2024-25 NBA Regular Season (Min. 20 Total DFGA) :

1. Keep winning, and the Pistons will win a bevy of awards.
The real award im wondering about, is which all-nba team Cade is going to end up on. His current run is absolutely insane.

For historical perspective:
In 2001-02, the year of our resurgence after Grant Hill left, we took home 3 awards:
COY (Rick Carlisle)
DPOY (Big Ben)
6MOY (Corliss Williamson)
Oddly our roster underwent nearly total turnover between then and our championship year- Ben and Corliss were the only 2 players who won that ring with us who were on that 2002 roster. And Corliss’s role was notably smaller in the championship season and reduced even further in the playoffs.
Of course all know we also had a new coaching staff by 2004 too. The evolution of that team from the wreckage left in wake of Hill’s departure to a championship team was a strange and wonderful thing to witness. Still think Rick should have been there to win with us though.

Earlier in the season I put $5 on Cade to win $120 for Most Improved and $5 on Beasley to win $250 for 6th man. Everything's coming up Millhouse.

I've never really seen lightning captured in a bottle like that before or since. It was really something magical to watch - pretty much every move they made over about a 3-4 year stretch worked to perfection. Of course, Dumars was never able to replicate that magic when it came time to rebuild. An interesting case study.

Cade has a legit case to at least be top 5 in MVP voting, imo. He's behind SGA, and thus behind him when it comes to All NBA teams, but I think you could debate him against any other guard. Mitchell probably gets it over him for first team due to how well Cleveland is doing, but Mitchell isn't the driving force of Cleveland the way Cade is for us. I personally think Cade is clearly better than any other guards after that. Brunson? Lillard? Give me a break. Cade all day.
