Reggie Jackson is getting underrated. There was a season there that he was on the cusp of being an all star. His knees got cooked and he was no longer on the upward swing.

At least by the numbers basically the season he was traded to us he averaged 9.2 assists for 27 games. The next year he averaged 6.2 and never really sniffed that any year following. He averaged 16.2 points and 5.6 assists on 42.5% shooting (35% 3pt) in 28.7 minutes. He was often taken out of games because of being winded or possibly his knees.
He was okay for us. A leader for us in a bunch of mediocre years; going to the playoffs twice where we were swept in the first round each time.
I only have part of the context of what the argument is surrounding him. I don't normally find occasion to claim guys like this as being 'underrated' unless someone is saying he was terrible? Is that what is going on here?

I said that Schroder gave me RJ vibes. A few guys agreed and a few took exception to the comparison.Invictus88 wrote:ComboGuardCity wrote:Reggie Jackson is getting underrated. That sorta lead to a burgeoning discussion about RJ as a player and whether perhaps he was being underrated here.

RJ was in no way a bad player here, and neither is Schroder. But RJ did have serious hero ball tendencies, which led to some big wins and some dumb decisions. I think DS is a better athlete, but RJ had freaky long arms to compensate. Both could throw lobs, although not with extreme finesse like Cade. Both talk an even bigger game than they play. Just seem similar.
Assuming we’re keeping Ivey around for next year, I don’t see the need to pay Schroder. Like I said before, he’s a good player, and if he likes it here and wants to stay on the cheap, sure. But he’s not going to get 20 minutes when Ivey is back unless something goes very wrong.
