"WE'RE TERRIBLE"

-_-

You do realize we can't win every game this season.

We certainly can't beat quality teams.
“[Your English] depends on where you start in the NBA,” said Nesterovic. “I started in Minnesota, he [Brezec] started in Indiana. That’s a pretty tough organization to pick up English.”

Didn't we beat Boston, arguably the best team in the league?

Okay that's one win against a good team. What else have they done?

The way to handle these things is to look at WHAT caused the losses, and see if it applies to the playoffs. If its a flaw that will cost you a playoff series, then start screaming that the sky is falling.

I was more concerned about the Boston loss than the Dallas loss. The Dallas one, we just got blown out, which was oddly reassuring, becasue while Dallas is an excellent team so are we, they're not 20-points better than us, so its easy to write off as just an off and lazy night and a hot one for Dallas.

The Boston loss is the one to watch, because they beat us in two critical playoff ways:

1) They put a bigger guard on Billups and pressured him hard. In other words, they did exactly what has beat us in the playoffs

2) They played strong interior defense, our 2nd half points were all jumpshots. And they beat us on the boards by 15 (!). That's just ridiculous.

^I disagree partly. The Dallas loss reminded us all how when things get tough, Flip will ride the starters all the way to a 20pt blowout before he would bringing in the young'ins. Herrmann was the ONLY guy to shut down Dirk.... he was on the bench the entire 3rd and start of the 4th when the Dallas lead went from 5 to 19.

This has been a problme for us in the playoffs. The starters don't do anything and yet they stay in the game. Flip always used the excuse that he had no capable backups to bring in off the bench without a dropoff in production. What's his excuse this year?

Yes, it's only 2 losses and they still have the second best record in the NBA, but these two losses have revealed problems that we've had in the playoffs and that aren't being corrected. That is why people get upset.

Seems beside the point though. Weve had reletively few cracks at good teams on full strenghth to say definitively either way whether we can beat other great teams.

All weve really on that front is split with a team that has 4 losses on the season (impressive IMO), lose one game to a rock solid top west team (Dallas), beaten a Hornets team that hadnt yet hit its stride, and lose to the Suns and Lakers while majorly short handed.

IMO hardly enough to judge our aptitude against elite level teams, with mixed and limited results throughout.

Weve still got to play the Lakers, Hornets, Suns, Mavs, and Celtics again, and we've got 2 still to go against the Spurs.

In short, I hope nobodies freaking out just yet.

I think this was a great post, but slightly flawed. Yes, defending PG's with a bigger body is usually a good scheme and its undeniable that winning the rebound game is huge, but so is defending the perimeter. As a Dallas fan, I have seen a few times this year when they have jacked up 15 or more 3's and only make 3-5 of them. This game could have easily gone the other way when those 3's don't fall. HOWEVER, not closing out on 3 pointers will also cause you to lose in the playoffs - just look at the Dallas/GS series where the 3 ball killed them.
