if starting arron afflalo is supposedly the "answer" to our problems, then i'm f*cking scared. i do agree that max should start, with dice and AMIR helping him play Center. Sheed really needs to step it up though, he is the biggest player on the team, and he is shooting 30 footers...

Manu Ginobili and Ben Gordon excel in gunner roles off the bench. I think bringing Rip off then bench would force Sheed and Tay to man up and look to be involved in the offense from the opening tip, rather than gladly deferring to Rip and Billups to do all of the scoring.

Rip would still get starter-type minutes, he just wouldn't start.

It will NEVER happen of course, but I still like the idea (with Delfino last season).
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

I'm also secretly hoping Sheed or Dice would miss a couple of weeks due to a non-serious injury in hopes that Flip would have no choice but to give Amir some real burn. Of course we'd probably see more Primoz and Herrmann, but I think Saunders would eventually realize he couldn't keep up the charade of playing Primoz in any minutes.

Basically I'm just bored as hell with our starters specifically and our team in general.

Don't we also have Sheed, or did I miss something? Why wouldn't he be guarding those guys? Sheed is at his best on-the-ball, and Max is at his best off-the-ball. The problem I see with the Sheed/Dice frontcourt is that they're both on-the-ball defenders. Neither have the quickness or hops (or desire) to be consistent threats defensively around the rim. This is one reason I'd like to see Amir. He's the best on the team in that regard.

Lately, McDyess has been checking the opposing teams 4's. There is not a doubt anymore that Sheed IS our center. While Sheed will spend time on guys like Bosh and Duncan, Maxy and Dyess spend a large chunk of their minutes guarding those guys too. And in reality, I don't really want Maxiell checking opposing centers...

I think we should start

C-Brezec
PF-Max
SF-Hayes
SG-Afflalo
PG-Stuckey

That would easily gives us the best bench in the league.

Yea we are the same team as the spurs right? We have probably the greatest PF of all time to give the ball to or one of the quickest point gaurds in the nba that can give us 18 points a game. We dont have any of that and our team is made up different and taking him out of the starting line up would kill our offense for the first ten minutes of the game because Sheed wont "man up" he barely even cares about the regular season as it is and doesnt respect Flip, he would not respond the way you think. Ben Gordon is on a team that is 8 games under 500 they arnt doing anything right. Its not about his minutes staying the same its about the start of the game and the start of the third which are crucial being effected negatively.

This would be a stupid move that would hinder us. Plus Afflalo would bring nothing to the table he has nothing to offer on the offensive side of the ball, absolutely nothing. His defense has been praised for more than he deserves. He has not shut anyone down and does nothing all he does is hustle and hustle only takes you so far. Also opposing twos would not expend any energy on defense gaurding Afflalo so they would be rested to take over on offense. All around bad move and Afflalo doesnt deserve anything like that he has done nothing to earn playing time.

Return to Detroit Pistons
