Would you really want Artest in Detroit?

For 6 months he should be ok, right? It seems a lot of headcase players (in all sports worldwide) are decent for their new teams for a little while...
As for Artest, I don't know enough about him to tell, I'm just going by general trends.
I would love him here if all it would take are expirings and a pick. It would be the piece we need to win everything without a doubt, and I would rather do that than sit here with the current team. Their attitude pisses me off, moreso than a headcase would.

Ron Artest can make $8.4 million next season if he exercises his option and stays with the Kings. Think he's going to do that? Listen.
"I'm definitely underpaid," he told reporters in Indianapolis on Saturday. "I guess if somebody was going to bet their house on it, they'd bet that I'll opt out."
You think? Actually, if you really want to be smart about it, bet that the Kings will trade Artest before the deadline. He has a lot of trade value and the Kings would be smart not to let him leave for nothing.By the way, among the teams Artest is listing now as potential future homes -- Detroit, Miami, New York, Indiana, Sacramento.

As I mentioned before, I would trade a 1st + expiring contracts for Artest. I would expect that he would opt out and Joe would coordinate a S&T since Artest thinks he is currently underpaid at $8.4 million next season. I can't see the Pistons paying him more than this per season.
Artest is a head case and Detroit would be a good option for getting a ring this year. He probably could be had for a discount versus his actual ability but if we did a S&T next year he would have to be shipped out at a discount. He could also just walk away for nothing but I would still give a 1st + expirings for him.

Why would we not rent somebody whose stock is incredibly low?
Particularly a former DPOY averaging 18.2 ppg and 4.1 apg?
Who is only 28!
From a managerial standpoint, it's a trade you have to make.
and in the trade checker, if we give up Murray/Hermann/Brezec for Artest, we only lose .3 apg, gain 7ppg and 1.2rpg.
If it takes a first, so be it. Unless we think we could draft our center of the future near the end of the first round?
Billups/Stuckey/Hunter
Hamilton/Afflalo
Prince/Artest
McDyess/Hayes/Johnson
Wallace/Maxiell/Samb
Which would give us room to bring Webber back. I suppose the other inactive would be Amir:
Billups/Stuckey/Hunter
Hamilton/Hayes/Afflalo
Prince/Artest
McDyess/Maxiell/Johnson*
Wallace/Webber/Samb*
Perhaps this would be the point that we, being the nice guys that we are, bring back Ronald Dupree or Sammy Mejia, as well:
Billups/Stuckey/Hunter
Hamilton/Hayes/Afflalo
Prince/Artest/Dupree*
McDyess/Maxiell/Johnson*
Wallace/Webber/Samb*
=championship, no doubt.
