The proposed three-team trade is out there and has been for a little while. We read where one report said that it's "pretty much dead," but you can't say that. We've all learned a trade is not dead until another trade happens.

I've heard it could happen from some insiders while others said they're not sure and others sounded doubtful. It's a possibility. It is a possibility until something happens.

There are more possibilities out there, ones that the reporters don't know yet. And those are the ones that happen usually. Consider this, Carter was this-close to being traded from Toronto to Portland. Everyone figured it was done. It stalled at the last second, Stefanski and Thorn swooped in and made the trade for Carter, and no one knew about it. That very well could happen here because the Nets are involved in so much. They're looking for trades for Carter and Jefferson and involing just about everyone else on the roster. But Kidd remains the likeliest to be moved because contenders want him and he has the most value. It would make sense for the Nets to insist they get either Devin Harris or Josh Howard from Dallas, but that's not expected to happen. Howard is a base-year comp player so moving him is difficult even if Mark Cuban decided to to it. So that what makes it possible, but not likely, that Thorn holds onto Kidd.

Team president Rod Thorn and special assistant Kiki Vandeweghe are working on trying to find new homes for Jason Kidd and some other Nets. They are discussing a three-way trade with the Mavericks and Blazers that involves at least a dozen players, draft picks and cash. These deals are hard to pull off, but it is a possibility.

According to league sources and sources close to the team, the Nets would get point guard Jarrett Jack, forwards Travis Outlaw and Channing Frye, a first-round pick and cash from Portland and Devean George, DeSagana Diop, Jerry Stackhouse, a No. 1 and cash from the Mavericks.

Although Stackhouse likely would be bought out using some of the money the Nets obtain in such a trade, this would be a three-for-six deal. Since the Nets don't have roster room to take six players, they would have to move someone else for a pick or trade exception or waive someone with an expiring contract beforehand (likely Jamaal Magloire).
