I think you're either overestimating the Pistons are underestimating the way a flying small forward with super-strength and super-breath would revolutionize the game of basketball.

In any case, I think it is really noble of Cassell that he is willing to accept a buyout. Getting paid a lot of money for services not rendered is so much more charitable than getting paid a hell of a lot of money for services rendered. Good on him.

You're right. It's silly to have Joe Dumars run the team when you're available.

You mean that 4 points, 3 fouls, and 1 rebound he racked up in 12 minutes could have been ours?

Webber got vastly outplayed by Z Ill who was tall and could jump and Varejao and Gooden who could run last year in the playoffs, I can't even imagine what the front lines out west are going to do to him.

Webber didn't help us in the playoffs last year after sitting out half a season, how would he have helped us in the playoffs this year sitting out half a season? I would rather sign Dale Davis for the playoffs than Chris Webber.

it sounds like most of you guys are happy with rookies going up against playoff tested veterans.

I wasn't too happy when rookie Daniel "Bobbie" Gibson took it to playoff tested- former finals MVP- veteran Chauncey Billups. :noway:

You don't know how players will react in the playoffs until they get there. All you can do is develop them into your rotation and hope for the best, making adjustments along the way.

If Amir/Stuckey/Jarvis/Afflalo/Maxiell keep playing and keep learning what they can do and can't do on the court... we will be in a better position than just grinding out our starters for 42+ minutes.

We also need a coach who can make adjustments and counter-act what is not working.

Last two years we didn't have either. We also had cocky starters who figured since they played non-stop in the playoffs that it didn't matter.

It's not about being content, it's about realizing the internal problems that need to be fixed... signing some random free agent puts a bandaid on the problem, it doesn't solve it.

A buyout of the remainder of Cassell's $6.15 million contract is unlikely because the Clippers are not willing to let him leave without gaining anything in return, according to multiple team executives.

Several contending teams have made trade inquiries about Cassell, but nothing definitive is in the works. The Clippers are believed to be waiting until the Feb. 21 trading deadline draws near and teams become more willing to deal players and draft picks.

The Clippers are optimistic that if they do trade Cassell, they will get a first-round draft pick in return.

While Sam Cassell acknowledged he's unhappy the Los Angeles Clippers are losing, the veteran point guard made it clear Thursday he's not lobbying to play elsewhere.

The Boston Globe reported Cassell was trying to buy out his contract so he could play for the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics. Cassell, averaging 13.1 points and a team-leading 4.5 assists in 34 games, is earning $6.1 million this season, the final year of his contract."There's no truth to it," Cassell said by telephone from Toronto, where the Clippers play tonight. "I never said I wanted to buy out my contract. There have been no negotiations, the team hasn't come to me about that, I have not gone to them about that."

"They misquoted me drastically," Cassell said. "It's just not right for my teammates to hear I'd be a perfect fit in Boston."That's not what I said. The reporter said I'd be a perfect fit in Boston. I'm still a member of the Los Angeles Clippers and I want to win as many games as possible with the Clippers."

Said Globe reporter Marc J. Spears, who wrote the story, "I've really enjoyed covering Sam Cassell since I began as a beat reporter in the NBA in 1999, and I've always considered him fun and entertaining. But with all due respect to Sam, I stand by my story. I have the entire interview on tape and after talking to me on Wednesday morning, he was quoted saying similar things to other Boston media outlets prior to the game against the Celtics."

Speculation has spread from coast to coast regarding the future of Sam Cassell. Will he finish the season with the Los Angeles Clippers or end up with the Boston Celtics? Regardless of what will happen down the road, the fact remains that Cassell is under contract with a Clippers."I've heard there are other teams interested in me but it seems to me that Boston is the team who everyone's coming to me about. It's got to be agreed upon by both parties so right now, I'm a Clipper as we speak today," Cassell said this week. "I enjoy these guys in this locker room. What more can I say?"

Cassell may enjoy the Clippers but there is no denying his appreciation for former teammate and current Celtic Kevin Garnett. The pair played two seasons together on the Minnesota Timberwolves and led the team to the Western Conference Finals. The 14-year veteran holds Garnett, who he deemed "the best all-around player in the game of basketball," above nearly all of his former teammates."He's up there at the top," Cassell said. "He's one of the top with Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. He's right there, he's right there. He's relentless like Jayson Williams was in New Jersey, relentless like that. Going for a rebound, his desire is like Clyde Drexler. And his emotion is like Hakeem Olajuwon. He wears his [emotions] on his shoulder, he's very passionate and it's not a front."

But Cassell means to the Clippers what Garnett meant to him. With Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston sidelined with injuries, the Clippers count on Cassell for more than 13 points and four assists each night. Even though Cassell said that he is not opposed to playing back up on another team, the Clippers need him to lead on theirs. "Sam is a big part in our offense," Chris Kaman said. "He controls the game." Cassell's contributions are sensed from those on the bench as well. He is one of the bright spots on the 15-31 Clippers. "[We need Sam] right now more than ever, just because of the leadership qualities that he brings," Livingston said. "With Elton going down and being our main scorer, I think not only he is a facilitator, but from his scoring he facilitates more and gets guys into scoring mode because he's able to score and pass the ball from the point guard position." Added Livingston, "It's crucial for him to be here."
