Here's what I see from Amir...

Clearly ready to contribute in the following ways: rebounding, shot blocking, lane filling, garbage points, hustle, to a lesser extent passing. Those things alone make him a valuable player. Lots of guys have made great livings doing those things alone and doing them well.

Clearly not there yet in the following ways: one-on-one offense, jump shot, handle, one-on-one defense.

His biggest deficiency, as has been mentioned, is his lack of strength. He just gets pushed around too much. Thing is, that might never change completely. But that doesn't mean he won't be an effective player. Chris Bosh and KG do just fine for themselves despite not being terribly strong.

Give Amir a few years to bulk up, work on his offensive skills/jumper, and work out his young mistakes and he'll be just fine. His potential spans the range of useful, Maxiell-like backup big to bona fide starting F/C, depending on how he develops IMO.

The important thing to notice is that he is improving. If every year he improves an area of his game, he will be a solid starter in this league, maybe All Star caliber. Much better than Darko who didn't work on his game.
