STUDS: Richard Hamilton was about as efficient as you can be, scoring a team-high 24 points in just 27 minutes. Allen Iverson had a double-double with 20 points and 11 assists.SOLID: Rasheed Wallace had 21 points, five rebounds and six assists which included eight points early in the fourth that sucked the life out of Denver's second half rally. Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 27 points on 8-for-15 shooting which is impressive considering he didn't score in the first quarter.

DUDS: There are no duds when everyone on your team shoots 50 percent or better from the field, which was what happened tonight for the Pistons. Denver's defensive game plan - that is, assuming they had one - gets the nod here. They were horrible in every sense of the word tonight, showing little to no interest in keeping someone in front of them. Ugh!SUPER SUB: Jason Maxiell has his mojo back, which is a good thing with the playoffs only a month away. He had 18 points and seven rebounds tonight, in addition to dishing out three assists.

UP NEXT: Wednesday vs. Cleveland. This will be yet another test of Detroit's ability to play - and succeed - against teams with contrasting styles of play. Wednesday's game will undoubtedly be lower scoring than tonight's shoot-out. This game will likely be decided by which team's bench steps up. You know LeBron James is going to get his points and at least one other starter will play well. But if Jarvis Hayes continues to shoot the way he has the last two nights, and if Jason Maxiell and Rodney Stuckey continue to contribute the way they have, the Pistons should be able to extend their road winning streak against Cleveland, to four in a row.

Chucky gets some love: Denver Nuggets guard Chucky Atkins is one of the few ex-Pistons who gets considerably more cheers than jeers when he returns to The Palace."It makes me feel good," said Atkins, who had seven points on Tuesday."Detroit is a place that was good to me. I had a lot of fun times here."

Oops: Richard Hamilton's last name was spelled incorrectly on the back of his jersey at the start of Tuesday's game. The jersey, which had Hamilton's last name spelled 'Hamiltion,' was replaced by one with the correct spelling early in the first quarter.

The Pistons set season highs in points, assists (42), field goals made (55) and field goal percentage (60.4).

This looked like a video game, with the Pistons successfully stuck on shoot. "We just had so many easy scores," Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. "...We scored and there were so many possessions in the game because they push it up quick."

The Pistons still managed to keep some order, and had a 100-89 lead going into the fourth. To place things in perspective, the Pistons have played 36 games this season (and won 20) scoring fewer than 100 points.

Chucky Atkins hasn't played for the Pistons since the 2003-2004 season. He was traded to the Celtics as part of the three-team deal that brought Wallace to the Pistons and, a few months later, the Pistons won the NBA title. Since then, Atkins has been with the Celtics, Lakers, Wizards, Grizzlies, and now, the Nuggets. Atkins still harbors positive feelings toward the Pistons, and The Palace crowd usually responds with a nice ovation. He scored seven points in 17 minutes. "I've got a lot of memories here," Atkins said. "I've been in the NBA for nine years, and I spent four of them here (2000-04). I know all of those guys over there (in the Pistons' locker room), except for Rasheed. I had a lot of fun here, it's always good to come back and play against your former team. Just be on the court with those guys."

The Pistons logged their most assists since April 10, 1992, when they had 43 against the (then) Charlotte Hornets. Despite the scoring flurry, it wasn't the highest first-half point total in Pistons history. They scored 87 points in the first half against Cincinnati on Jan. 7, 1972. The Pistons have won 12 in a row at The Palace over the Nuggets.

Hamilton started the game wearing a jersey that had his name misspelled as "Hamiltion."

Chucky Atkins hasn't played for the Pistons since midway in the 2003-2004 season. He was traded to the Celtics as part of the blockbuster three-team deal that brought Rasheed Wallace to the Pistons and a few months later, the Pistons won the NBA title. Since then, Atkins has been with the Celtics, Lakers, Wizards, Grizzlies and now, the Nuggets. In other words, there's been a lot of miles and uniforms since he last played at The Palace. But Atkins still has positive feelings toward the Pistons, and The Palace crowd usually responds with a nice ovation. "I've got a lot of memories here," Atkins said before the Pistons played the Nuggets on Tuesday night. "I've been in the NBA for nine years, and I spent four of them here (2000-04). I know all of those guys over there (in the Pistons locker room), except for Rasheed. "I had a lot of fun here; it's always good to come back and play against your former team. Just to be on the court with those guys, especially for me, because I haven't been on the court pretty much all year." Atkins had surgery Jan. 11 to repair a sports hernia. He was scheduled to be out until at least the end of March but decided to return to play two weeks ago. He admits he's limited in terms of running and cutting but still believes he can help the Nuggets. "I just feel pretty good," Atkins, 33, said. "From what I was hearing, after talking to guys who've had the same surgery, whenever you have this, you're never going to come back and be 100 percent. So I said if I'm not going to be 100 percent I might as well come back and play and see what I can to do help."

Fighting for position: This is the first game in a critical five-game trip for the Nuggets. They're fighting to get into the playoffs. The Nuggets were in ninth place going into Tuesday, 2

In the past three games, the Pistons have found success in various ways. On Friday, they overcame a sweltering zone defense to edge the San Antonio Spurs. On Sunday, the Pistons erased an early deficit and used hot shooting from behind the arc to defeat the New Orleans Hornets. And Tuesday, the Pistons played to the level of the up-tempo Denver Nuggets, scoring a season high in a 136-120 victory at the Palace.

The plan worked splendidly in the first half, when the Pistons raced to a 24-point lead before halftime. They posted a season-high 73 points in the first half, the most they've scored in a first half since April 16, 1991. The Pistons' bench scored 36 points in the first half, including 11 from Jarvis Hayes, who continued the scoring binge he started Sunday.

The Pistons had a season-high 42 assists, while Richard Hamilton (24 points) led seven Pistons in double-figure scoring. Wallace scored 21, and Billups finished with 14 points and 10 assists. Jason Maxiell (18 points) and Hayes (17) were big off the bench, and rookie Rodney Stuckey (11 points, six assists) continued to make significant progress.

Insert one more "i" between the L and the T, and he'd be a natural partner for Ax and Smash. Already has a mask, too.

56 points scored by the Pistons' reserves. The Nuggets bench wasn't too bad, either, as Linas Kleiza, J.R. Smith and Eduardo Najera each scored 10 points.

The last name of Pistons guard Richard "Rip" Hamilton was misspelled on the back of his jersey when he took the floor against the Nuggets. Someone noticed the error - "Hamiltion" - in the first quarter and he was able to change during a timeout. The mistake had no effect on Hamilton as he finished with 24 points on 11-of-19 shooting.

Wonder if they will be selling the Hamiltion jersey's at the Palace locker room, or even the clearance rack.

Controlling the tempo was No. 1 on the Pistons' priority list Tuesday night. From that standpoint, they didn't come close to completing their mission. Then again, the Denver Nuggets played such indifferent defense, the Pistons could not help themselves.

The Pistons pigged out offensively and devoured the Nuggets, 136-120, at The Palace, their 12th consecutive home win over Denver and second consecutive series sweep.

Point distribution came in many layers, as seven Pistons reached double figures. The Pistons hadn't scored this many points in regulation since they had 140 against Orlando on Feb. 21, 1990.

The 136 points were the most the Pistons had scored in regulation since a 140-109 victory over Orlando in 1990.

The Pistons scored a season-high 73 points in the first half, getting at least four points from 10 different players, and led by 22.

The Pistons shot 63 percent on their way to a 34-point first quarter, then went 5-of-7 on 3-pointers in a 39-point second quarter. Detroit also outrebounded the Nuggets 24-12 in the first half.
