Trade Idea: Det-Atl-LAL

Post#1 » by Patrick27 » Tue Dec 11, 2012 6:23 pm

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=b77etvq

Summary
Detroit Out: Prince, Villanueva, Bynum
Detroit In: Petro, Harris, Clark

Atlanta Out: Smith, Harris, Petro
Atlanta In: Gasol, Prince, Bynum

Los Angeles Out: Gasol, Clark
Los Angeles In: Smith, Villanueva

Why for Detroit - Expiring contracts, make minutes for younger players, readjust lineup
This move allows Singler to move to SF and Stuckey to move to SG, which is most appropriate for the development of both long-term. Opens up minutes for younger players with long-term committments, such as Jerebko.

Why for Atlanta - Better balance, better fit, true SF on roster
This move allows Atlanta to have a veteran, durable SF with championship experience, so they can stop starting three guards. Builds the team around twin towers and outside shooting, which allows them to immediately compete better with the top of the East. They can't win as currently constructed by playing small ball.

Why for Los Angeles - Get their guy in Smith, as well as a stretch four to provide space
This move adds additional athleticism in Smith to pair with Howard, and a stretch four in Villanueva to somewhat mimic Howard's Orlando days. Creates space for Kobe and Nash to work.

Thoughts?

You'd at very least had to remove Bynum going to Atlanta to keep them under the LT.

Id rather cut LA out and flip Tay and Bynum for Harris and John Jenkins.

Joe Dumars sending Tayshaun to a gutted Hawks team? Unfortunately, not even plausible.

Never understand the point of trade threads other than beating one's own chest if its a good idea. It's not like Joe Dumars is going to browse REALGM or any other board and go "hmm, great idea!".
