Will Knight ever "get it"?

So I agree that your best decision maker doesn't have to be pg... But he has to be somewhere. He has to exist, and be able to make sure 5 people are playing right, not just himself. Even Lebron just said yesterday that "I've never considered myself a scorer"
That's why Durant is reinventing his game right now to try to get his teammates involved more and get more assists. He knows he can't win it all In the end without someone on his team playing that way.

Chauncey Billups may not have been a pass first PG, but he knew when to set up his teammates- how to set them up and then when he should score. Brandon Knight does not know these things. Until Knight can master these basic PG concepts the team will suffer. Knight would be perfect playing along a good scoring SG that is the dominant ball handler and can set up his teammates.

Langlois: I wouldn’t put it on Billups, necessarily, Ken, but you are correct to call out the fact the Pistons struggled mightily in their half-court offense in the playoffs in 2006 and beyond. After dominating Cleveland in the first two games of the 2006 conference semifinals, the offense clutched up and from that point on would come and go during the postseason. As for the contention that run-and-gun basketball won’t hold up in the playoffs, I’d say it’s probably more accurate to say great teams give the opposition very little opportunity to run. They generally take care of the basketball and take good shots. If you’re not turning it over and not taking a lot of shots out of imbalanced offensive sets, you aren’t going to make yourself vulnerable to transition basketball.

So Joe D either has to hire Larry Brown, Phil Jackson, or maybe even reach for Larry Sloan, Bill Laimbeer or some undiscovered coaching genius

Fall out of love with combo guards at the point position and get a pg that can score but primarily has a natural talent for court vision and playmaking

Find the next Lebron James or Larry Bird At small forward

Who is Larry Sloan?

FYI. Bill Laimbeer is not an Elite coach or a hidden gem for all we know.

And, you don't need a pass first PG, but a good "Field General" who can play elite defense. Then, just have wing players who can shoot with very good handles that can pass themselves. Rip Hamilton and TP made good passing wings while Sheed was a threat in the post. But, what made the Pistons great was defense. Defense 9 times out of 10, wins championships. A good coach will draw up plays to score with whomever is on the court.

I've been kind of a Stuckey holdout, waiting and hoping but he's just not the guy. I keep saying this and nobody listens, bring back Afflalo.

The reality is we aren't going to get an elite offensive SG unless they are really bad at defense. The sort of guys who do both are pretty much untouchable. So give me a solid 2-way SG who can space the floor and bring back the guy we friggin' drafted. Knight/Afflalo/Prince/Monroe/Drummond? Looks like Pistons basketball to me.

And yeah, you need a great coach if you don't have an elite player. Whether Frank is that person or not doesn't matter to much at this stage. What Frank has to answer for is player development and establishing a positive culture. If you think he is failing in those areas then fire away, but not without suggesting a better (and realistic) alternative. I think the guy is OK for now.

No, not really. Nobody really keeps the same starting 5 for a decade. Change is inevitable. You just can't afford to keep guys under the CBA like you used to be able to. I'm happy with AA for 3-4 more years.

Ive been saying that knight should be a sg for a while befor its was a more popular thought and I still agree with it.Let him play there for a few weeks and see what happens,if he dosent look like a good fit in the small sample size then move him back,but if it looks like hes comfortable and he looks good then we should keep going with it and see how far he can go from there.

Knight always was a combo guard, even in college. As far as him being our starting SG? That would be kinda like what the Denver Broncos went through to accommodate Tebow., if he can't be useful as a starting PG, he needs to come off the bench like most combo guards.
