Where have all the gunners Gone?

"Brent Barry e-mailed. He was wondering why these days so few NBA players average 20 or more points per game.
There's just nine in the whole league, at the moment, he pointed out. As recently as 2007-2008 there were 27."

No wonder I've been pushing so hard for players that can pass well.
The iso shot chucking combo guard wing era is over!
Now for the good news:
If the Pistons build their team right, and Joe D falls out of love with combo guards at the point guard spot, they actually are in the best position to succeed with the new defensive style of the NBA.
They already have many excellent role players that can shoot, and they have 2 solid bigs. Now all they need is a small ball defensive 3 or 4, and a true pg that can shoot.
These are the best players for the Pistons to grab this summer. They need guards that can pass well AND shoot well, and forwards that can pass, shoot well, and defend small ball power forwards.
1s:
Trey Burke
Jose Calderon
Scott Machado
2s
Ben Mclemore
Victor Oladipo
3/4
Otto Porter
Brandon Wright
Tony Mitchell

why Pistons need better passers instead of iso gunners
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Exactly!
That's why you need good passers and good 3 point shooters! Not somebody who thinks they are Mike Jordan in 1986! Modern defenses need good passers and shooters to break them up.

The Pistons also need better spacing and off-the-ball movement; they are awful with this on some possessions. But I'm not changing my mind about them needing a creator, a guy who can get to the hole and make the defense move. It's nice that Kyle Singler tries--if only he were a better finisher . . . and passer.

I think we do get killed with ball movement. We also don't have alot of players with 3 point range. PG will claerly be our biggest need in all honesty.

Yeah it all starts with pg... A pg that can pass, run the pick & roll, and shoot the 3 would be a benefit
Burke
3 - yes
P&R - yes
Drive & kick - yes
A/to - yes
Defense - no
Calderon
3 - yes
P&R - yes
Drive & kick - no
A/to - yes
Defense - no
Machado
3 - maybe
P&R - yes
Drive & kick - yes
A/to - yes
Defense - no
MCW
3 - no
P&R - yes
Drive & kick - yes
A/to - yes
Defense - yes
So Burke & MCW are the 2 best options...
I go with Burke because the Franchise Drummond can clean up on D for him and Trey can space the floor for the whole team.
With MCW you get extra D, but minimal floor spacing.

I'd rather roll with a guy i could put in now. I don't think that Burke is that guy. I think overall at the MLE that Calderon would be a solid add.

Maybe if Calderon was 3 years younger
