Re: Next year lineup
I'm having the hardest time putting together a realistic roster for next season (...that I like). I just don't know who would come here. Does anyone have a list of teams that are going to have money to play with this summer.
I need to see who we're competing with for players. I know teams like Dallas and Houston have money but who else. Hopefully it's not many more teams with better situations/weather than us because we might get caught scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Monroe coming off the bench??. I don't know bro, Monroe might ask to be traded ASAP if Frank considered giving him a bench role...I honestly think Josh Smith is going to Houston this off-season, it just seems like a perfect fit...

Re: Next year lineup
Money talks and if we offer Millsap more money than another team he will come here and come off the bench
$10 mil per is $10 mil per... we have 3 quality young players, a high draft pick and the ability to turn this "sinking ship" around in one off-season
You don't sell Millsap on a bench role - you sell him on returning this franchise to it's former glory. He's not a fool and his agent isn't either! Drummond + Monroe + Millsap = plenty of playing time for all 3 and combined they would form one of the best PF/C rotations in the league!
With $28 million I would break it down like this:
Calderon = 3 year contract @ $7 mil per season... no raises.
Wright = 5 year contract starting at slightly more than the MLE... max rises allowed under the CBA
Millsap = 5 year contract @ $10 mil per season... no raises
Approx $22 million spent...
Drummond/Monroe
Monroe/Millsap
Wright/Singler
Knight/Olapido
Calderon/Knight
Middleton, English, Slava and Jerebko are the other players... maybe sign Terrence Williams to a 3 year deal paying him $1 mil per...
That's a much, much better team than the rubbish we have now... and we'd still have flexibility moving forward

That's the part I'm not convinced of, I'm terrified at giving another 8 figure deal to a bench player after the BG fiasco. I remember when people thought there would be plenty of playing time between BG/Rip/Stuckey and Knight/Stuckey/BG. That never ended up being the case and we were stuck with an unhappy overpaid bench player.
With teams like Houston, Atlanta (if/when Josh leaves), and Indiana (if they decide to upgrade from David West) being able to offer him starting positions, I think Millsap might end up being a pipe dream. Carl Landry may end up being a more realistic option for us.

Not interested in giving Millsap that much money just to be a backup.

My Line-up I want:

Line-up I think we will have:
PG Jose Calderon
SG Brandon Knight
SF Shabazz Mohammed
PF Jason Maxiell
C Greg Monroe
neither will happen, Josh Smith is the worst possible fit for the Pistons.
& no way on God's green earth will Drummond not be starting next year

We need a scoring big off the bench. JJ Hickson would be nice at the right price

Re: Next year lineup
In my scenarios we'd sign Millsap to be a back-up... but he'd play 30 minutes per game or very close to it
That's why you pay him that much money - he's essentially another starter!
96 minutes available at PF/C... Drummond = 30, Monroe = 34... who gets the other 32? CV-DNP? Jerebko? Slava?

^I like your idea...You just have to get those 2 bums(Singler and Calderon) out of the starting line-up...We'll never be a competitive or respectful team with those two getting starting minutes...

i like the idea of milsap depending on how much he commands. With the idea that KRav is ready for backup center minutes

I don't see how we can pry chandler from Denver without giving up our draft pick or anything of any value.
Stuckey is not value before anyone responds with that.

Re: Next year lineup
Shabazz throws up red flags for me. He seems like a product of self centered coddled AAU athlete movement. Forget the fraudulant age thing, I'm concerned about the pouting he did when he didn't get to hit the game winning shot.
I am concerned about what appears to be a one dimensional game. Benny Mc from Kansas is a two way player who defends and scores. Oladipo locks down just about everybody and he has ridiculous athleticism. Either one of those players would add more than Shabazz in my opinion.
Paul Milsap would be a great addition to the team. He could push Moose for minutes big time. He could be a safety valve if Moose decides to bolt. HOWEVER... His contract may put him out of what is feasible to pay a backup 4.
Wilson Chandler is a really good versatile player. He could be a good addition to the team if the price is right.

If they don't contend this year, Iggy opts in and they are looking at him long term, i can see them moving chandler for more flexibility,. Problem is chandler is on a great contract. Stuckey+Singler

The problem is that Milsap doesn't solve any of our defensive problems. I'm sick of the undersized PFs at this point. I want someone who can protect the rim. Sick of the open lane in the paint. I freakin swear they rebuilt I-75 so that it rolls right through the defensive paint for the Pistons. I'd also just give Josh Smith 2 mill more a season if I'm throwin 10 at Milsap.

Guys who can't play defense are reserves. I'm starting to think less of Monroe as the season goes on. I also don't feel like he's a max player anymore. He is too one dimensional and isn't elite offensively. With the current state of our team, I'd move him to surround more young talent with what we got. We need to look at what Seattle/OKC did

Next year will be judgement year for Moose. If he develops a consistent jump shot, and shows he can play the PF position, we'll sign him. Why are we looking for more young talent in a year we need to contend? We need young vets not young projects

Re: Next year lineup
Why all the love for Calderon? There is a reason Toronto has been trying to get rid of him for a while. While he seems like a good guy, he can shoot/distribute, he is too feeble to defend NBA players, his defense is terrible, I'd rather have Knight out there where at least his matchup won't be blowing by him at will or shooting open shots at will. Part of the Pistons recent slump is related to Calderon's lack of defense, which further is exacerbated by Monroe's lack of help defense. If Calderon doesn't come cheap, I don't really want him. I think if the Pistons play things right, they will be able to pick up good pieces by helping other capped out teams.
