How about this

Post#1 » by pollack419 » Mon May 20, 2013 5:26 am

Get Josh Smith 4 year deal for whatever, hopefully not for Max but get him. Can be an Allstar SF or PF. We can play him both through the game starts at SF. This guy can look like lebron sometimes running the offense. Is Explosive can play great D, Scores and blocks shots. Good shooter not great. We need some excitement. Crazy Numbers
18 pts 8.4 reb 4.2 ast 1.8 blks 1.2 stls per game 30% 3pt could be better the FT were way down 52% a career 65%. But still Dre and him can work on getting better, really last years whole roster needs a FT lesson. He will love playing w Moose and Dre

Sign Jarret Jack 3 year deal 15 mil He had very similar numbers to Billups at the same point in his career Billups did score more
Year 7
Jack 13 pts 5.6 ast 3reb 84% ft in 30 mins Vs Billups 6th yr 16/4/4 88% ft Billups first yr in the D
in 12 Playoff games vs Denver and Spurs 17/4/4 just shy of 90% FT ( I hate missed ft) that shows clutch

Draft Michael Carter Williams to play PG / SG I think he will be a great PG of the near future . Love this guy tall PG 12 pts 7 asts over 2 steals can defend SG. Him playing SG gives you another great pass and ball handler

Trade: I so want to trade Knight but I can't do it just yet. But get a 1st round pick in the 15-25 range like Utah at 21 for Singler and whatever else they want JJ or CV or Stucky or the 2nd round picks. I am going to say Stuckey plus a late second
At 21 draft Kentavious Caldwell-Pope SG Geroga 18 pts 7 reb 2 ast 2 stls also great defender can play some SF mainly a SG. Plus think of the Pope nicknames.

second round pick Mike Muscala C 19/11/2.3 ast 2.3 blks Good post moves good effect Could be a great back up

What do you think of this team / rotation

PG - Jarret Jack/ MCW / Knight
SG Knight / Pope / English
SF - Josh Smith / middleton / Pope
PF - Moose / Josh Smith / JJ / CV
C - Andre / Moose / Muscala / Kav

If Knight doesn't work you can pair him w CV or English at the trade deadline of the best SG you can get.

I really think that Jack is going to get more than $5mill per and I don't want Josh Smith, he simply won't fit at Detroit.

I agree after posting Jack would get more so give him 6-7 per on a three year them MCW takes completely over at PG. Why No to Josh smith? who instead?

I am one of the few on here who thinks Smith would fit on this team as a SF/PF hybrid. I don't like Jack taking over the PG though as he isn't really that much better than Knight and he is already 30. Knight is not a SG and he is still pretty raw at the PG, but I think he will get it if we don't give up on him.

I can live with the OP's ideas if it pans out that way. No problems whatsoever.

I kept going, then got lost at "can be all star SF or PF". Kinda weird to be so confident about that when it hasn't happened in 8 years at either position.

If history has shown us anything, players careers really take off when they get themselves into a position where there's a logjam for minutes and possessions. :D

I think it would be great to have him between ages of 27-31 on a 4 year deal if we even could

I understand it's Gores prerogative to "win now", because he wants to increase the value of his investment.

But, from a fans perspective, why do we need to "win now"?

Even if we become a middle of the pack playoff team, which is the apex of what someone like Smith or Igoudala could do for this team, you're still going to get baptised by the Heat. Overpaying for B+ players opposed to smart drafting, shrewd signings and opportunistic trades isn't going to result in a championship. It never has for anyone other than the Heat, who improbably convinced the best player on the planet to sign there.

Look at the Lakers who tried to buy a "win now" team this year, they were already a huge failure before Kobe's injury.

That's a nice squad, I wouldn't sign Jack though...I like your idea of taking MCW and Pope in the draft...

I hope you're joking...The better question would be, what kind of fan doesn't want to win now?..Get that tanking and scared of the Miami Heat stuff out of here...Rome wasn't built in a day, so who cares if we indeed sign Josh Smith, become an 8th seed, then lose in the 1st round...At least our players will have playoff experience and gain expectations to make the playoffs...

For the record, I think Smith will sign with the Rockets...

With all the injuries in the NBA your window might open up before you know it. Remember how we started blowing up the team after Boston beat us then KG got injured and Orlando (Who we basically owned that year) made the finals?

This isn't a "if not Josh Smith, who do we sign?" thing. We don't have to sign anyone to any deal. Joe D works way better in trades than FA anyway. Josh Smith would be a cancer on this team who would ruin the development of Drummond, he would decline rapidly as he began to lose his athleticism, and we would be lucky to make the playoffs. I like Jarret Jack, and I think signing him would be a huge improvement over Knight.
