A different offseason idea

Post#1 » by The Penguin » Thu May 30, 2013 5:05 pm

Amnesty CV31, waive Stuckey

Trade: #5, Jared Dudley, Michael Beasley for #8, English

Suns free up cap room to sign Igoudala and dump Beasley. Pistons likely get one of McLemore/Oladipo/Porter

Sign Brandon Jennings

Draft McLemore/Porter/Oladipo

Jennings/Knight
Rookie/Knight/Middleton/Singler
Dudley/Singler/Middleton
Monroe/Beasley/Jerebko
Drummond/Monroe/Krav

I liked Jared Dudley, but I'm not sure Pistons won't get their man at eight instead of five, and Beasley... Haven't we had enough of offense-only players to know how that would go? Can you imagine a frontline of Monroe, Beasley, and Singler? That defense could play in the dunk contest and nobody would be the wiser.

I'm good with this if we use our cap space wisely for free agents. Otherwise, their contracts might be more useful at the trade deadline.

Give up nearly 10Mil in cap space for the next two seasons just to move up 3 spaces? I'll pass.

Should be considered, but with all free agents, the question is how much do we have to pay?

Piston Prince wrote:Draft McLemore/Porter/Oladipo

So without the Phoenix trade, all three of those guys are likely gone, so instead, KCP or McCollum

Ok, I'll play along. Talk me into Beasley. Why? (Honest question)

1) I doubt Suns take that deal.

2) I would rather have other guys than Jennings.

But I like the creativity, good job.

I like the Jennings and Beasley pick-up...Both are still young and have room to improve...Beasley needs to improve his defense if he plans on having a future in Detroit though...I would offer the Suns expiring Charlie V for Beasley(BeEasy) straight up, no draft picks or Dudley included...I want Muhammad on our team, I think he could be our new SF/SG going forward...

because we like pain, internal dissension, and inconsistent play?

that's the best I can do.

Players on top of the list that the Pistons and any other sane team don't want as their problem: Cousins, Beasley and the reincarnation of J.R. Rider.

1) I find it hard to believe the Suns would unload both Dudley and 5 for 8 to move just Beasley. It's a bad deal for them.

2) I'm with you on this one. I would however sign him if we don't draft a PG. 5 years 50 mill would be good for me.

My main theory regarding Beasley and Dudley is allowing the Suns enough cap room to chase Igoudala. Iggy went to college in Arizona and if they landed him they'd be able to go Dragic/#8/Iggy/Scola/Gortat with a young deep bench (Morris twins, Marshall, Shannon Brown).

I like Dudley, I think he'd be a great fit as a 3-D guy/positive vet presence. He can hold down one of the open wing starting spots or slide to the bench when a long term solution is found. Moving up from 8 to 5 puts us in the territory to get one of McLemore/Porter/Olidipo (or Burke/Noel worst case). Beasley is a bad contract, but I think the benefits of moving up and adding Dudley is worth giving him a shot.

The Suns refused to take anything less than a mid first round pick for Dudley at the trade deadline. There is absolutely no chance of him being traded in order to move down in the draft and shed salary.

I'm impressed Piston Prince, this is your best post ever, very solid plan and none of the moves are absurd.

The Phoenix trade is very plausible and a solid deal for both teams and the Iggy explanation is excellent. Well done.

^^ You think taking on that much money just to move up 3 spots isn't absurd??
Getting dudley isn't that exciting a prospect when you look at beasleys contract.

Then signing jennings will cost fair too much than it's worth. So that's a no go for me.

no offense but i don't like it.

Dudley is being extremely underrated here. He is a high BBIQ player and an excellent shooter. He is a good defender and can guard either SGs or SFs. At the top of all that, he does not have an ego and would likely be fine coming off the bench and he is locked long term in a GOOD and CHEAP contract.

Beasley is horrible and is the reason why Phoenix would give up Dudley and slide down in the Draft. We would be filling 2 needs (both our wings) only by taking on Beasley MLEish contract.

I thought the same thing regarding Dudley. Dudley can play with McLemore, Oladipo or Porter, one of which is likely available at #5 but not #8. Dudley would be a great fit both on and off the court. Beasley is the tax, but can compete with Jerebko as a stretch 4 and will combine with Jerebko as expiring contracts in 2 years.

Suns go from having ~$10 mil in cap to ~$20 and I'd have to believe Igoudala would look at them. Iggy-Dragic-Gortat-Shabazz could be an interesting group.
