Danny Granger?

Although i think they shouldnt, granger may just be a little bit more expendable for the pacers than he has ever been. a fairly large contract gives them a little more incentive to do so too.
for us it would give us a shooter at the significantly important SF position who can potentially be a go to guy down the stretch. Thoughts?


Salaries wouldnt have to match since we are so far under. Would stuckey be a piece theyd be interested in? obviously shooting guard is.. that would give them a bit of financial relief, while keeping the same style of play they were successful with in the playoffs.
is knight too much for him? im still high on knight. think he can be good. not sure thats who theyd be after anyway. same kind of player as george hill. please dont make this another thread about whether bk7 is good enough for us. Keep it to the potential of danny granger.

On one hand its low risk and might make next year interesting.

On the other hand he's 30 and therefor won't be in the picture for more than a couple of years.

I wouldn't trade for him unless the cost is very low.

While they may be inclined to trade Granger, he played a couple minutes for the entirety of last season, so I wouldn't give up much more than the 56th pick for him.

Even then, Indy isn't likely to trade him to a division rival unless they believe his knee will permanently slow him down.

I'd trade anyone besides Monroe and Drummond for him. He would have to play for a full year before we give him any big contract.

His trade value is that hes an expireing contract. Granger would be a place holder to get us over the min salary to get to 2014 FAs.

Depends on the price of the salary going back... not inclined to overspend for someone coming off a serious injury.... the age doesn't help.

The Granger thing is complicated and doesn't work for us. Here's my logic:

If he's not fully healthy, the Pacers happily give him away for nothing. Then half our cap space goes to a one-year rental of an injured scorer, who gives us 40 games scattered throughout the season. We don't improve much, we don't get any assets with our space. He'd expire soon, and maybe we could use him as an expiring next year, but what's the point?

If he is healthy, he's a good scorer on an expiring $14m contract. If that's the case, one of two things happen:
A) the Pacers expect something decent for him, and we don't have enough to offer.
B) If they're desperate and we do get him and he plays pretty well, he's not taking us to a championship next year, and then he'll expire and be eligible for a big contract at the end of the year. Do we want to pay $10m+ over 4 years to an injury-prone 30-year-old scorer on the decline?

Maybe if he were 25 years old we'd take the chance, since we'd be willing to pay him big if he plays well next year. But not much sense for us as is, not with his combo of age/contract/injury.

Getting high quality players after their high quality days had finished was a hallmark of the teal era. (See: Danny Manning, Kenny Smith, Stacy Augmon, Loy Vaught, Sean Elliott, Alvin Robertson, Cedric Ceballos, Mark West, Otis Thorpe, Dana Barros). Maybe there's still time to see if George Irvine is available to coach.

Well watching the NBA playoff against the heat, I realize the problem with the Pacers was Depth. Their starting five are very good but their supporting cast could use an upgrade. Now I'm sure there is concern on Grangers Surgery if he'll recovery his old self as a player once was. So here my idea. Trade :Granger/ Pendergraph to the Pistons for: Stuckey/ CV. This will help Pacers with their bench. For the Pistons a gamble that he returns to his old self -Great! if not, last year of his contract. good-bye.

I think the only way I add him is in a straight salary dump for a second rounder or a Middleton or English. We take on the 14 mill in salary and they get the big TPE. Two many questions to give up valuable assets for a guy who might not even play a whole season.
