That's the point ChipButty

He will opt in... he's not leaving $9 mil on the table to avoid being traded... and he has a 15% trade kicker on top of that too!

What he can do is refuse to report... in which case he'd have to organise a buy out.

Let's assume he agrees to a buy out of $5 mil... he'd be on our books for that amount... throw in the #13 pick at approx $1.7 mil and we've only spent $6.7 mil of our cap space

Probably enough to get Iguodala and certainly enough for 2 mid-level type free agents

We could actually do the following:

#8 = C.J.M

Trade our 2nds for Marion and #13 = M.C.W after free agency begins, buy out Marion for $5 mil and then sign Paul Millsap ($9 mil starting salary) and Dorell Wright ($4 mil starting salary)

Drummond/Slava
Monroe/Millsap/CV/Jerebko
Wright/Singler/Middleton
C.J.M/Stuckey/English
Knight/M.C.W

Marion takes his $5 mil buy out... and goes back to Dallas for the minimum (approx $1 mil for someone of his experience) to team with Dwight, Dirk and CP3 :-)

I agree that he will opt in, that wasn't my point.

My point was Dallas cannot trade him until he picks up his option and I don't see any incentive for him to do this until after the draft, making a draft day trade unlikely.

There can be a tentative agreement on draft night. No big deal

I'm not giving Paul Milsap a long term deal at 9 mill to play 20 mins less a game. JUst a bad idea. I agree that a draft deal buyout can be made with Marion.
