In my opinion...Valanciunas should have been taken over Thompson, and Barnes over Waiters at the time. Knowing what we know now, obviously Dre would go top 2 in the draft, but at the present time I felt Barnes was the choice over Waiters.
He's including this years pick in the three firsts. 2003-2013, three #1 picks. They have been a worse team. We usually trash them nowadays. I still remember being up 100-50 after a Knight dunk at the end of the 3rd quarter in a game against them....they are worse record-wise as well.

Glad someone has a brain around here. I would say Valanciunas and Barnes were the BLATANT OBVIOUS choices for Cleveland and I'm even giving them a pass on Drummond and I shouldn't.

I'm bored with the current draft threads so I'll keep making a case, though I don't really care about the Cavs. This year, Tristan Thompson had a better season than Valanciunis and Dion Waiters had a better season than Harrison Barnes. There's a misconception that Barnes was great this year because he played a lot of minutes and his team won a lot of games. He had a PER of 11 and was less efficient than any other rookie who got some minutes (aside from A Rivers). I'm not saying I think TT and Waiters were the right picks, but both guys are 21 and have proved they have NBA skills and huge upside. Cleveland's FO isn't a bunch dummies who pick random names-- they picked those two based on upside and raw athletic skills. So far so good on both of them.
(Val in particular might prove to be the better player-- I'd bet that he would be if you put a gun to my head--but TT does a lot of things Val can't and won't. He's way stronger and more athletic, for instance.)
And about us vs the Cavs, we've both been bad teams for the past couple of years. They recognized they would be awful post Lebron and decided to do a rebuild, while we pretended we were capable of going for a playoff spot. They traded any vet who had value, drafted young guys, and planned to suck, while we rolled out the best team we could (until the 2-years-too-late Tayshaun trade) and aimed at mediocrity. The end result is that we won a couple more games and they got a couple more ping pong balls. They tried to lose while we tried to win...and we won 5 more games. Wouldn't exactly be proud of that.
