I'm very afraid that we are just going to ride out the season and let him and Stuckey expire without trading them for crucial assets.
this
its easier to facility trades with luxtax teams for example with capspace than having the need to send back almost the same amount of salary. Also with the competition at PF i think a lot of people overestimate the use of Charlie as a strech 4, he cant play C or SF, just PF and is still atrocious defensivly, most minutes at PF will go to Monroe and Smith anyway.
WTF?
First things first: can people stop whining about the Ben Gordon trade? please? We basically gave up BG and that pick to sign Josh Smith! Anyone prefer BG and that pick?
2nd thing: after signing Smith we had plenty of cap space to make trades with teams over the luxury tax threshold. Do you guys not believe Joe Dumars got phone calls? Do you believe he just went about signing players and forgot all about the possibility of making trades?
We ended up signing Bynum, Billups, Datome... all on very cheap short term deals... but not after some trade "ideas" were floated (Rondo, Gay)... I think it's fair to say Joe attempted to make some trades using the expirings and other pieces... didn't like the response he got and moved on... as he should!
I'm waiting for some cap guru on this board to arrive to explain to all of us how losing Stuckey, CV and our other expirings next off-season - then signing Monroe to a big deal - doesn't give us more than the MLE in cap space.
People talk about us not having money to spend next off-season... and I'd like to know how that conclusion was reached....
anyway, people whining about not using the amnesty clause on CV seem to believe that someone we could make some kind of trade with the additional $8.5 mil in cap space, landing a quality player AND a future first for whatever trash we'd send out.... you're dreaming!
I ranted and railed against Joe keeping his job for this off-season... as of the 12th of July he's been amazing! I didn't think it was possible... but hes not only provided hope for the future he's mad smart signings at reasonable prices.... it's almost enough to make me forget we've sucked for 5 years!
That's impressive. Credit Joe, credit Gores... not using the amnesty on CV is the right call righ now.
