Would any of you have been shocked if he was offered the head coaching position and turned it down?? I wouldn't!!! No cause for damn anything here.

A month ago, no I wouldn't be surprised if he turned us down for the head coaching job, because we were just a lottery team and there were a lot of other job openings. Now though we are a clear playoff team loaded with talent, possible 50 win team, and with no other jobs open I am kind of surprised that he would rather sit out a year with no salary, over coming to work with all this talent for a season and making some money.

There'll be open coaching positions once we get into the season.

Its really not that common for coach's to get fired mid-season. Also not common for high profile coach's to want to take over teams midseason. Most prefer to wait so they have full training camp

Why would he accept this? He can sit on the sidelines and there should be 2-3 coaches fired during the season that he'll be a top choice to replace, along with Karl.

You guys need to remember this Pistons team paper vs paper was complete GARBAGE 2 months or however so ago.

I'm sure Lionel thought he'd get plenty offers and thought he was too good for this position with the current state of the team at the time(deservedly so). Unfortunately for him he was going against guys with more buzz(shaw) and a coach got freakin traded to a team he would have been great for (who woulda thought it)

Karl doesn't even have a job and as previous posters have said, Detroit was way too deep in the process of Cheeks to pause it and talk to Lionel while Cheeks goes somewhere else.

Also, theres a reason why he hasn't been picked up as well.

I love the Pistons trying to make this move but it also seems like Hollins either knows his worth or letting his ego ruin him.

He shouldn't. That's why he didn't accept the offer. But, from Detroit's perspective, it would have been a boon to have him.

It seems like a good idea, but my thinking is we really wouldnt know who is responsible if we start having a great year, what happens if its do to hollins and he gets an offer and leaves and we start sucking,we would be kicking ourselfs .I would rather let cheeks be the only head coach that we have and hire a good assistant coach, and if cheeks isnt cutting it we know its him.
