Without Harrelson and Siva we are already at $51,113,230 including the $10.2 million hold for Monroe, that's $8 million in cap space at best unless Jerebko opts out or we don't pick up the team option on Drummond which are both pretty unlikely.

Josh Smith $13,500,000
Brandon Jennings $8,000,000
Jonas Jerebko $4,500,000
Greg Monroe $10,216,135
Will Bynum $2,915,908
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope $2,772,480
Chauncey Billups $2,500,000 TEAM OPTION
Andre Drummond $2,568,360
Luigi Datome $1,750,000
Kyle Singler $1,090,000
Tony Mitchell $816,482

Total $50,629,365 or $48,129,365 Without Billups.

Your numbers are a little bit off but whatever, you're nitpicking just to bash KL for the sake of it. He does write a lot of crap but this wasn't one of his craps.

What he said is 100% accurate considering we don't know exactly what the salary cap will be. Around 10 million is as accurate a number can be at this point

I got my numbers off Hoopshype, it has Smith at $14 million, $500,000 more than what you have him at. Also keep in mind if the team doesn't do well and we keep our pick that will be another cap hold that cuts into our space.

FWIW shamsports or storytellers contracts are both good places to get salary info. Poopshype on the other hand... not so much.

Joe Asberry wrote:He had a breakout year last season, and had pretty good playoffs too. If he keeps improving i think he could be a very good complimentary player to our core. He is already a great defender, if he can improve his offense next season he should be no.1 target next offseason. I would probably offer him Stuckey money (3y/24 mil)

Yikes, Stephenson's 'breakout' season featured a PER of 11.8 (well below league average) and less than 11 ppg per 36 minutes. He became a passable rotation player, but we should let him prove a LOT more before we're talking about 3 years $24m. Bynum and Stuckey were significantly more productive and efficient than him last year, and none of us thought either of those guys played well last year.

Also his 'pretty good playoffs' involved an even lower PER of 11.3. He dropped 20 on the Heat in game 4 and made the front page, but the rest of the series he averaged 7 ppg on around 33% shooting in 35 minutes per night.

I can see how you think he's a guy to keep an eye on, but right now the stats see a 23 year-old who's never been close to average.

We have the BIGS, if we don anything next season, adding perimeter D and 3-point shooting would be my priority. Adding a guy like Battier would be my #1 option, and a bench SG who can hit the 3-ball would be priority #2.

I think we use our cap space in the trade market, to maybe grab a 2013 signing that isn't working out for his new team or a similar situation 2012 off-season signing for a team looking to get out of the final 2 years of a veteran contract as the team decides to tear down and rebuild. Somebody like Kevin Martin for example.

I wouldn't expect a lot from the Pistons in the 2014 offseason. I think if anything were to happen it would be via trade and not FA. The Monroe extension will cripple the cap as we are basically forced to conserve money for potential Drummond extension which I almost guarantee will be more than the Monroe extension. I think we need to find guys in the second round who fill the 5 to 10 minute role. A 3 and D role guy and a back-up C who can be a defender/shot blocker can be found there.

It all comes down to team and cap management. If a deal presents itself to seriously better the team this year, I reckon they make the deal even if that puts the team over the cap next offseason. If not, I don't think the Pistons will be a player next offseason but I wouldn't put it past them to go after some fringe player earning $4-7 mil as a sixth man or possible starter at SG if there are questions about KCP.
