Get involved in Gasol-Bynum trade

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Mon Jan 6, 2014 9:50 pm

Rumor has it that the trade is still on and third parties are involved. Maybe we could be opportunistic? Joe, are you listening?

Lakers: Out with Gasol (19M), in with Bynum and Detroit contribution
Why: Save 20Mil in luxury taxes once they waive Bynum

Cavs: Out with Bynum (12M) and one of their youngsters, in with Gasol
Why: Gasol is 1000 times better than Bynum

Detroit: Out Any of Jerebko, Bynum (Will), Datome, Mitchell
In: Bennett, Karasev or Waiters
Why: Better talent and/or shooting

So the obvious question is why wouldn't these better assets just go to LA in the first place, so we'd have to somehow sweeten things so we can get someone good from Cleveland and still send a token to LA so they will do the deal. Maybe involve Stuckey or CV's expiring?

the only way we get bennet/waiters for CV/Stuckey expiring is if LA doesn't want to pay them for the next few years... It doesn't make sense to me.
I understand the luxury tax savings, but it's LA. And kobe is always publicly supporting Gasol, so losing him for essentially nothing would just pi$$ kobe off.
I'd love to get in there somehow and steal some value, but i'm not optimistic.

You'd have to be a moron to believe the Lakers would prefer one of our pieces of garbage over Dion Waiters- the very player the Lakers want that Cleveland won't include.

Yeah, if they'd been successful in getting the Cavs to give up Waiters this deal would have happened last week.

The Cavs are smart not to give up a substantial young piece in a deal for a short term investment like Pau.

Maybe we send something to Cleveland to make up the difference? All I know is that if there is a trade going down today and the Cavs and Lakers need a third team, Dumars needs to be on the phone trying to squirm some value out of it.
