On a fun note, I wonder if I've got some kinda superpower! I'll have to propose another trade idea tomorrow and see if the principal player involved in the deal gets traded by the end of the night! I may actually control all player movement in the NBA!!!

But seriously, the Bulls took a HIGHLY protected first rounder and a couple of 2nds for Deng (assuming they'll cut Bynum, which I think they will)? Again, just … wow.

Please propose a trade for Josh Smith, Please.

It's tough to see us pass up on Deng when he could've been had for so cheap. Seriously? A really weak first rounder and a couple 2nds? I would've probably been willing to trade Monroe for him...

Deng is not a good enough 3 point shooter to really help us- its Trevor Ariza that we really need. Deng shoots 27% from deep.

I'm hearing they're going to amnesty Boozer next (maybe at season's end?)

I think they will save around $15M from the luxury tax by cutting Bynum, if they amnesty Boozer they will be making another run at LeBron and Carmello, possibly even Bosh in all likelihood. They will have so many holes to fill after this but I guess that's what they want to do so...

But as YOU pointed out yesterday, sc, this move doesn't really save them cap space at all; since Deng was expiring anyhow, they're still gonna be right around the salary cap before amnestying Boozer, which means they really won't have money to make a serious play for Melo or LeBron. That said, that's cap space. In actual reality (i.e. real, honest-to-god dollars and cents), as you wrote above, it saves the team from spending around $15M during what's clearly a lost season. I cop to being a typical fan and usually only thinking of the sports side of things and thinking that all of these owners can just spend money like water whenever they feel like it, but if I ran a business that I knew wasn't going anywhere for a year and could cut $15M off the operating expenses during that down time, I sure as heck would, too.

(P.S. — I don't see Melo or LeBron going to CHI this offseason, and I certainly don't trust Rose to come back and be healthy, either. Conclusion? Chicago could be in serious trouble for a couple of years and be forced down the full-on rebuild road, which would be great for us in the Central.)
