A win now trade...

Post#1 » by GreekAlex » Sat Jan 11, 2014 1:58 am

Here is my take on a helpful trade that includes a combination of players that have been mentioned as targets to solve our problems and still remain young and competitive.

I like most would like to build around Drummond and it seems as if these pieces would complement his game and shake up the roster enough to change the culture of the team.

Det out: G. Monroe, J. Smith, R. Stuckey & J. Jerebko & 1st rd pick

Det in: A. Afflalo, J. Green, T. Young & G. Davis

We become:
B. Jennings
A. Afflalo
J. Green
T. Young
A. Drummond

W. Bynum/ C. Billups
KCP
K. Sigler / Gigi
G. Davis /CV
J. Harelson

Orl in: J. Smith

Orl out: A. Afflalo, G. Davis

Phi in: G. Monroe, J. Jerebko

Phi out: T. Young

Bos in : R. Stucky & 2015 1st rd pick

Bos out: J. Green

The numbers work financially and we put 3 shooters around Jennings and Drummond and get a deeper bench.

I'd bite on that trade. I didn't read the particulars of the deal, but the starting line-up would be amazing compared to what we're currently trotting out there.

And the beauty is they all have 2 seasons left after this year on their contracts so we can keep who works out well or have max money to add around Andre. And hopefully KCP can fill Afflalo's shoes by then.

...would be a bad idea.

Not just yours', any realistic win-now move for this team is a bad idea in my opinion.

I think with the GM, owner and roster we currently have losing won't benefit us enough.

I think there is too much talent to get our draft pick back for this years draft and we need to build a winning culture around Andre Drummond.

I don't see any other options than trying to win now, acquire young talent and remain flexible... do you?

There are very few teams the Pistons are more than a few games ahead of right now. I think they could fall into the bottom eight.

If I were Dumars, I'd be looking for a team to take Josh Smith. I think the Pistons would have to give up assets to get rid of him, but it'd probably be worth it in my opinion. The 2014 draft is loaded in the top ten.

Welcome to the board, GreekAlex.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but we can't trade our 2015 first round pick due to owing a pick to the Bobcats / Hornets.

Besides that, I'd say just dial your huge trade back to the ESPN rumor from the other day — if ORL will really give us AA & Big Baby for Josh Smith, we make that deal in a heartbeat and call it a day.

Good all around effort and well reasoned, though; I just happen to think less is more in this case.

I'm sure the pick could be worded so that Boston gets our next available first round pick because in Danny Ainges eyes it looks like this years pick will satisfy the bobcats deal and Danny likes to stock up on draft picks.

Also with the Philly part we get T. Young for 2 and 1/2 years at under 9m/per instead of Monroe at 4 or 5 years at >12.5m/ per and we get rid of J. Jerebkos 4.5m next season. I think T. Young (at 25 with 6 years expierence) with more range and athleticism would complement Drummond on offense much better than Monroe at a cheaper rate with better defense.

Young isn't a very good defender, Monroe is probably better one-on-one actually.

Who do you think would compliment Andre's game better and factor in the rate at which they will be paid starting next season?

I wasn't saying anything about that, you said Young would make the team better defensively, I was just pointing out that he stinks on that end. I actually wouldn't mind dealing Monroe for him, I wouldn't love it either though.

Keep it to Smith for AA and Big baby. It that happened we're instantly better.
