Hawes?

Post#1 » by ayatooma » Mon Jan 20, 2014 8:52 pm

Any interest in Hawes?

Seems like he would fit so much better with this team. If we can pry him from Philly great, if not let Greg walk and go after him instead?

On offense he would still space the floor with Drummond and Smith. You could play Smith more inside while pulling a big away from the hoop by floating Hawes outside. Reminiscent of Billy spurring the offense from the top of the key and opening up Dantley/Aguirre for inside post ups.

On defense he does block a few shots. Not sure how well he fits guarding 4s but Drummond might be able to do that. Just feels better to me than what we have today.

I will admit that I have not watched him much since he left SacTown. I always like him as a player and did not understand why he did not play more.

I like this better than what we have going now...

Jennings, KCP, Smith, Hawes, Drummond...
Bynum/Billups, Stuckey, Singler, Jerebko, Harrelson...

with hawes and harrellson (one of them) always on the court, smith playing SF can work in offense, in defense is another question

anyway, i prefer smith as PF and a D&3 athletic SF

I don't understand the interest in Hawes? How much would anyone reasonably expect Hawes to move the needle? He's never been an integral part of a winning team.

Hawes will be paid pretty much what Monroe gets +/- 10%

Our biggest problem is defense and unfortunately, this would not help us defensively. Smith would still have to play SF and that is essentially the Achilles heel of our defense. Hawes is an ok player but just doesn't fit on this team in my opinion.

Greg monroe is a really talented, young big. The only reason to part with him would to be to get a talent back that balances the roster and moves smith back to pf. Hawes obviously doesn't do that.
