Hindsight 20/20

Post#1 » by ayatooma » Mon Feb 3, 2014 8:05 pm

We should have done everything possible to get Iggy.

He would fit so much better on this team.
- better outside shooter than smith and could have spread the floor inside
- capable facilitator and could have let jennings play off the ball in the starting lineup a little more
- good defender...

Seems like we missed the boat on this one. Bummer!

Jennings/Bynum
KCP/Stuckey
Iggy/Singler
Monroe/Jerebko
Drummond/Harrellson

Seems like a better rotation.

iggy wasn't available according to reports.
He was going to GS before the preveious season had ended.
He would have been good, but we weren't getting him.

How much hindsight do you want to use? Back to the trade with the Bucks? Back to the start of free agency, when we signed JSmoove but shouldn't have? Back to the draft when we could have drafted Giannis but didn't?

Maybe we pull off a trade for Kyle Lowery using Knight too?

Lowery/Bynum
Stuckey/Singler
Giannis/Middleton
Monroe/JJ (I don't think Milsap would be willing to be a bench player)
Drummond/Jorts

Then extend Moose and sign Lance Stephenson, or instead of banking on Giannis' potential, we stick with KCP and sign Luol Deng? Or draft MCW and keep Knight at SG?

All I know is we shouldn't have signed JSmoove and should have kept Middleton (if it was possible to do so).

I'm not so sure if we signed Iggy instead of Smith we would be much different than we are now. I'm getting less impressed with Cheeks every game. If we don't have a good game plan and a coach that is strong enough to make sure that plan is followed, then we are going to have problems. Yes, Iggy would play the SF better than Smith, and probably wouldn't chuck up a bunch of bad shots, and actually has an outside shot, so yes, he would have been a better fit. But would we be that much better with Cheeks still coaching? Until he tells Smith where he can shoot and sits him when he goes out of range, Cheeks is a weak coach and we will continue to lose. That needs to be fixed immediately.

i always thought it was foolish that we didn't pursue eric bledsoe harder when he was on the trade block. we did have knight, monroe, and singler to offer...

i'm fine with KCP in the draft too. there weren't too many other realistic options besides burke or MCW, who both had major questions about their ability to perform in the nba. giannis was a total shot in the dark, and it would have been considered foolish to take him that early in the draft. at least we know that KCP will have a role in the nba as a 3&D player on the wing for the next 10-15 years. if he ever develops a more sound game off the dribble, then he'll eventually force his way into all star consideration.

Considering how little Phoenix had to surrender to get him, Detroit definitely should have went after him harder.

if we had landed Iggy there wouldn't have been any need to bring Jennings in. Iggy could have played on the ball, lessening the need for a playmaker at the point. BK could have been more of an off the ball 3rd option, which is probably what he's best suited as, and BK, KCP and Iggy defending the perimeter could have gone a long way in helping to hide Mooses weak help D.

curry >>> knight
thompson >> KCP
iggy = iggy
lee > monroe
bogut < drummond

while that's an interesting point (iggy playing point forward,) if you're iggy, and you wanna win now, what would you do?

yeah, once Golden State threw their hat in the ring we probably never had a chance, but this is basically just a "what if" thread.

Iggy would have been a better fit defensively and far less of a trainwreck in terms of the volume of shots.

We'd still have spacing issues, though.

As others have said, we weren't going to be able to sign him. It wouldn't surprise me if we did try. Note that Smith signed after a number of other guys went.
